I've never heard the ZL1 suspension referred to as FE5, would be nice if that was for a new model. If it is then that's one heck of a slip up.

...and please...don't bring back the mailslot<unless they can plumb cold air induction, which I highly doubt>. I think that was a design mistake of the past, all show and no go aspect of unfunctional aesthetics.

Interesting read. How would the 1LE do in this test? Any guesses? |

The same question could be asked of a Base BOSS vs. the LS...
I think a 1LE, with an LS3 and 3.73 gears, would give a Base BOSS all it could handle (pun intended) and more. I think the upgrades given the BOSS LS means "something more" than an LS3 is required for a non-ZL1 to match/better the LS... Any ideas as to what THAT might be?! |

One thing I'd like to point out: the ZL1 out handled the Mustang largely because of the stiffer chassis, better weight distribution, and an independent rear suspension. I'm sure the MR shocks played a role too. Hmm ... where have I seen that before? That a lot of the mechanical stuff that makes the Camaro heavy, also improves its handling? That the Camaro is a better platform than the Mustang to make a great handling car? I'm not sure, but I think it some moderator on a Camaro website that has been saying that stuff for quite some time now.

OK OK, we hear ya'.
And that is why is posed the question. It was as much the chassis and suspension as it was the 580 hp. The Boss LS was only marginally slower than the ZL1 in 1/4 mile numbers. That having been said would the 1LE with less weight and less power even come close on the road course? |

YES!
As I mentioned, take these two to Waterford Hills or any other tight track, where monster power is of little/no benefit, and watch the MRC'd Camaro WITH EQUAL POWER-TO-WEIGHT AND CLOSER CURB WEIGHT dance the BOSS right into the grass... A 1LE with more juice (or a ZEE) would do that. |
