Has anyone compared the standard vs replacement chains that are supposed to be stronger?

my sources say it basically the same chain... the wife's Acadia lost the first set at 34,000 miles... the replacement chains only lasted about 50,000 miles... think we had them replaced at about 82,000 or 84,0000 miles...

Well that reassuring. I assume there are no other options.

You would think they would swap it out for a better chain. They paper work with part list shows GM part # 12651450. Looks like the same chain (kit) that is already installed from the factory. I can't find any other type of part # for one. I can't see how programming the oil life monitor so you change oil sooner is going to help. My is changed around every 5k miles. It still shows around 50% left.

Well.... On the Acadia, i made that the wife's responsibility... she kept up on oil changes per the Oil Life Monitor... And yes, we did get the recall done that shortened the oil change interval by reprogramming the OLM...

But yes, on my Camaro it was full synthetic ever 3,000 to 5,000 depending on how many track visits... basically changing the oil after 2 track visits or 5,000 miles... Camaro had 42,000 miles on it when I sold it 2 years ago... Car is now somewhere in Morocco... and still running strong, but no idea of the mileage on it..

The most problem is that if you go by the oil life monitor the you have to check you oil says right in the owners manual and the dealer I work at I have done 2 sets of chains in the past 2 weeks and its because the customer goes 5k or more on a oil change the tensioners are oil feed so when you go 5k on a oil change normally you will be about 2qts low because gm does say it possibly will use 1qt of oil every 2k miles if you change it every 3k you will have no problem

And they did extend the warranty on the chains under a special policy for 10yrs or 120k

They did extend the warranty? Do you have the Document SB number?
What about the spacers behind the phasers on cars with certain P/N's??
Also the service bulletin for the check valve?

I only have 22K on mine in 3 1/2 yrs.

The issue is the DEXOS approved syn BLEND oil. Full syn and the chains should last twice what they are now.

We do the entire replacement with the latest revison for $999 complete.

All need to realize a M1 blend, is not the same as M1 full syn, and that M1 full syn is not nearly as good as it used to be.......but I see customers thinking the dealer is using M1 full synthetic when it is the lower grade syn blend. We do these jobs steady and see the results first hand.

I only use full synthetic. I pulled out the factory oil at around 500 miles. 5k miles on full synthetic is not to many miles. My monitor has never been below 50%. To tell you the truth I don't even go by the monitor. I don't believe that all the the timing chain issues are do to people not changing their oil in time.
Do you know if they are still using the same chain or is there an upgraded one? I will ask the dealer when I drop off my car next week.
