Yes, we as drivers should always look for emergency vehicles but It not quit that cut and dry.. My brother is a Memphis Fire Fighter and EMT that has to drive the Unit as well; guild lines follow the same as law enforcement. Fire trucks and Police Cars can run red light BUT it is THEIR responsibility to make sure that they slow and check the intersection to make sure it is clear before proceeding. They also will be ticketed for causing a wreck and running a light. Flashing lights on a car does not give you a pass to ignore everyone around you. Good to hear that everyone was ok.

Why didnt ABS work? Nobody runs over to see if everyone is ok? Just a casual walk?

I see different issues at play.
1. Lack of communication. 2. Assumption by the police that they always have the right-of-way. 3. Failure of both parties to remember that you always have to expect the unexpected. 1. Lack of communication by the individual who allowed the cop to come on to a closed set and failure to immediately announce STOP ACTION (or everyone involved did not have headsets to hear the announcement). 2. Coupled with practicing the stunts several times which gets you into the mindset that a stunt will generally goes as practiced. 3. Failure of both parties to remember that regardless of how much training you have in your professions that unexpected events are always a reality of life. If I had to assign the greater percentage of blame I'd probably assign it more to the police than I would the film crew because the police should be more experienced that their daily unplanned actions are more likely to cause unintended consequences. Whereas as the film crew was working on the principal that their planned action on a closed set would go as practiced. When those two principals collided; $hit happened. |

Ok this is 100% the officer's fault. Sorry, I love PD but this street was closed. They had officers on scene for crowd and traffic control in the area. The officer blew threw the closure and road blocks and went head on into a KNOWN movie set that involved high speed stunts. This supposed "bomb threat" kind of evaporated into thin air shortly after the accident.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the movie company go after the city for the damage caused.

First off, no, Bumblebee (the set stunt car) does not have ABS. No stunt vehicle has ABS. If the car had ABS it would be infinitely more difficult to pull off some of the power slides and advanced stunt driving techniques needed for the scenes.
Secondly, there was a major breakdown in communication here. The police securing the set were on a different radio frequency than the rest of the district. They were also not monitoring the district frequency, so that's a big issue right there. They should have been fully aware of the situation not just on set, but in and around the area also. Thirdly, the driver of the Suburban was reportedly a 25-year VETERAN of the force, not a 25-year old kid. As an officer with that much experience, you would think that he would be aware that there is a movie being filmed in the city. It makes sense that he would choose to take that path, considering the streets would be shut down with no vehicle or pedestrian traffic. But he should have known that when he crossed onto the set that vehicles moving means that they were currently filming and he should be proceeding with caution AT ALL intersections. He's just lucky that he hit Bumblebee and not Ironhide, Ratchet, Optimus, or the Ferrari. This could have been MUCH worse because he simply ignored his surroundings. Lastly, I hope this ends up on the Special Edition Blu-Ray. I want to see what Michael Bay's reaction to this is. This is a rediculous incident that never should have happened. Sure, they probably have a backup Bumblebee or two, but this kind of blunder is just not acceptable on a movie of this scale.
