Its not that odd if its the lighter duty, quick shifting G56 manual vs the venerable NV-5600....especially on a company fleet vehicle.

Dodge makes the best looking truck. To bad as of last week they are now Italian trucks and no longer American.

I have a 2005 1500 Hemi. I gotta say... the winter seemed to have taken its toll on it. But I have tricked it out a little this year, so it might be just parts that were about to go, just go.. I replaced the alternator, battery, weel hub, and computer system all this winter.... the water pump is making a new annoying noise now, so that might be next.. but the electrical issues may have been my fault (except alternator). The wheel hub bearing went bad because I uh... may or may not have gotten stuck mudding... and... jumped it... trying to get out. But other than the little things going out, it seems to be pretty stout. 2006 and above seems to be when they got over alot of things. The 2nd half of the 3rd gens seem to have been the start of the relability of a good vehicle. I have heard people say that the 2005 models are better than 06 and 07 rams because that was when they were experimenting, but the 2005 and 2008 1500s are probably the good ones in my opinion because they were the last models to come out before the new refreshed designs. Although the 2005 -2008 models are similar, they werent exactly the same, and the parts that were put on or changed after the 2005 model year, seem to be the ones to fail. My example is that when they changed to that stupid electronic 4wd switch instead of the knob, that was new for 2006. Well my buddies got a 2006 and his switch stopped turning on his 4wd and they opened up the transfer case and that switch fried the internals and they had to replace alot of the parts around there. It wasnt cheap from what he told me. My point is, when they change parts, they arent exactly refined as soon as they decide to slap them on there. They learn from the warranty replacements they have to do and usually the bigger problems are fixed by the end of the generation or "refresh" you could say. But in my experience with Ram, go with either a 2005 Hemi, or a 2008 Hemi.

Get a 14 silverado or just a silverado in general. I have had about 3 in the past decade or so and 7 in the family. And only had problems with 1 it was a lemon. These trucks are very tough. Just bought a 14 silverado high country and sadly ran head on into a 95 silverado. Stupid 18 year old kid try in to get to work and ran a red light. Well all it needed was a new grill hood and fenders. And it got hit head on. It runs perfectly today. Have always bought chevy and always will. But personally it's what you prefer all 3 are good.

Friends of ours had an 05 Daytona and it had tranny problems. We had an 04 slt w/ hemi and it also had tranny problems. On top if that, the egr went out twice, as did the alternator, all before 100k

Yea, my trans seems to be doing fine, but ive heard alot about that also. I switch to tow haul alot in daily driving to try and keep my shifts down so I dont heat it up and wear it alot with my heavy tires and toolbox.

I stand by my statement. In my opinion a gas motor in anything heavier than a half ton is silly. It's based on my personal experience. Your opinion may differ, in which case we're all entitled to our points of view. Obviously the gas motors work for some in 3/4 and 1 tons or they wouldn't be available. The reality is most of those trucks come with diesels for good reason. I do believe our Dodge trucks have held up far better than most of the 3/4 ton Fords I know of. GM trucks seem to hold up well too. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk |

Comparing Dodge from 10 years ago to now is kinda like comparing apples to pineapples. Its not the same company. Fiat has been a positive influence for that company in a big way. As of today when it comes to buying a modern day 1/2 ton truck there all fantastic products. Picking one if your not brand loyal really is a tough choice.
