what is the best way to Dyno a L/99 Tap shift on 4th gear or automatic 6th?
thanks
4th of course, or whatever is closest to 1:1 driveline ratio.

Isn't this one of the reasons the L99's read a bit lower than the LS3's when on the rollers? The M6 has a true 1:1 ratio 4th but the A6 is like a 1.12:1 (can't remember) so it reads a little lower than than the manual cars regardless of the mods (that, and there is of course more driveline loss through the automatic).

Saw an article where they did some cam swaps and the L99 was besting the LS3's down in the low and mid range on torque. It would be nice to see a comparison of the two motors on an engine dyno with the same mods (cam, headers and even FI). Oh well, can't wait to pick mine up once I get back to the states. Way jealous of you guys!

I never posted mine. Matches some and lower then others. What would a LS3 get with my same mods (see sig) this is with a dyno tune? I didnt get a baseline before my mods. Seems like more then what I thought is lost through the powertrain. What would this HP rating be at the flywheel?

That's very low. An LS3 would be putting out close to ~410 rwhp. L99's usually get around 375 rwhp with 385 being the highest I've seen. Torque should be around 10 higher than your hp.

Could be a number of things: Weather conditions, tuner (air fuel ratio could be off), and/or the dyno (some read low).

He did say his dyno reads a little low, I wouldnt think that low. I been looking for what a L99 dynos at stock. I expected 400hp to read about this with no mods are rear wheel. As soon as it cools off, going to have someone else dyno for me.

I've seen a L99 dyno as high as 345 rwhp and 360 rwtq stock. It was Jannetty, I believe. But, this was after about 6-8 pulls. Something most of us can't really afford. lol

Jannetty's dyno consistantly produces good stock numbers (LS3s and L99s).

Some dynos are not so generous. We have two local dynos and L99s only make around 315 - 320 rwhp (stock). I've even seen some lower that that.

But these are strong running L99s. One L99 that made 318 rwhp ran 13.3 @ 106 mph in summer heat. Corrected it would have run 13.1 @ 108 mph.

So you really need to look at each dyno individually. And like I always say, the track is the real test.
