Always wanted a corvette in my life - however in the UK, they aren't practical. So when I moved, I found myself in a position to purchase one - apart from the fact that I now have a little tot running around. So the next best thing was a 4 seater - hence the camaro. Space for the little one in the back, basically a 4 seater corvette, next best thing!

I've had an F-Body in the garage most of my driving life, and with the 2012 updates I decided to pull the trigger on a CPO 1SS M6. 426 hp for $28K was too good to pass up. I have 2 kids who supposedly need to go to college or something, so no C7 for me.
I have a soul-sucking company car that is the DD, so when I get to take the SS out, it's so cool I just smile when she barks to life. A few small mods and it's perfect for me. The hard part is going to be not trading it in on a Gen 6. I usually wait until the 3rd year of production, so 2018????

I've owned ridiculous cars since I was 17. If that makes this type of car a mid-life crisis, I'm one of the undead then, because I'm 43 now.
I bought my 1SS because my Solstice GXP was low to the ground and my elderly parents could not fold themselves into it any more. After you get ten or twelve calls at 3 am saying "we need to go to the hospital" you start to consider these things.

it wasn't easy for me as I looked about nine months with 16 to 20 different vehicles on my want list. loved corvettes since very early and already owned two ( sat in a friend of my dad's gold 1969 and after 25 minutes they had to come pry me out - I still remember it was gold with the wire hubcaps instead of the usual rally wheels )
I was willing to spend 50k but would go 60k for the right car. C7's were flying off the lot and even when you could get one at MSRP it was hard to be first in line. the only three others that tied for second cost 20k more. so after all the net surfing, dealer lot checks and review research the 1LE won. beauty, beast & bang for the buck. nothing else came close at under 40k. I have zero regrets. the only other direct influence was the day I got behind a black ZL1 near my home. I went around him on the right and that car made my neck snap like linda blair in the exorcist. and very few cars get that reaction from me. i'm certified car crazy since I knew what a car was. and I think the rumble of a performance chevrolet V8 is one of the worlds finest treats your ears will ever hear. |

I bought my Z28 because I want to enjoy this car for as many years as possible. I bought it last year, when I was 21 after saving up for 4 years. Most people were telling me to wait, save my money, buy a car like this when im older. But I wanted to enjoy it now, and ive dreamed of owning a car like this for as long as I can remember. So really, who cares why other people think we bought our cars, all that matters is why WE think we did

midlife crisis?
I have a similar story but here in high stress N.J! Also thinking of it as a "reward" car. Life's short, enjoy it while you can, I'm 57 years old. This is my third Camaro, had a 69 convrt, 69 Yenko 427 tribute( just sold in sept, and quickly had withdrawal symtoms!) got this loaded 2lt RS to enjoy with my wife as a second car. Great looks, gas mileage, comfortable, plenty of power(323 hp) dual mode exhaust.

Nicely said sir! I get that question all the time! I say "No, it is a lifelong crisis apparently!" LOL I bought my first Z28 at 19 years old and still have it today! Raced dirty oval track for 17 years and worked to build a company and family... All at the same time! Sold the race teams and bought my 2014 1LE and 1969 Z28 last year. I am 47. So I have been into Camaro's and fast cars all my life. Midlife had nothing to do with it... Except I can now afford more toys and nicer ones! LOL

I've been having a mid-life crisis since I was 18.
I'm now 31. For a few years I was "responsible" and had a practical little Nissan pickup, and after a walk around a few dealerships to daydream about having a fast, loud manual-transmission car again, I decided life is too short to drive something boring. So I got my SS. |

This thread got me thinking...I really never was a Camaro 'fan', always a Corvette fan though. Over the last 20 years in which I have bought my cars/trucks, I have owned 12 vehicles (not counting wife's cars). So 12 vehicles over 20 years. Doesn't seem like much but that is keeping a car for less than 2 years. I think the longest I had 1 car was 3 years.
My 11th car was a '12 Camaro LT. I didn't go into the dealer looking for this particular car...but I ended up with it and I was very happy. This car introduced me into the Camaro world and is how and why I bought my '14 Camaro SS. I think I am going to hold onto this one for a while. My wife disagrees, LOL. We shall see what the future holds... Great thread...enjoyed reading some of the stories. Edit: make that 13 - I forgot about my current 2nd vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler.
