But, I knew the Camaro wouldn't be a Vette. It seems I let the hype and nostalgia of this vehicle persuade me to have to have one in my driveway immediately. I always loved Vettes and Camaros, but once you get past the cool factor of this car and the fact that is has a Vette motor, without the Vette power, it just isn't doing it for me. Please don't flame me for coming on here and giving my honest opinion of the car. I just want others to know what the SS really has to offer.

The fact is I love sports cars and the Camaro is not a sports car it's a sports coupe! Forget the fact that GM is advetising this car as the "Sports Car of the 21st Century!" It is not a sports car. It handles poorly when driving in tight mountain roads which I love to do with my toys. Too much body roll and steering isn't tight enoguh.
I'm afraid that my worst fears have come true about this car. Ever since the first test in the magazine I figured this would happen. This car is great for what it is, but not for someone who really loves sports cars and what sports cars really are. Sports cars are fun to drive in all situations, Camaro doesn't fit the bill all the time. A sports car communicates with its driver at all times, Camaro puts you on hold most of the time. These cars are sports coupes trying to reveive the muscle car era big engines go fast. Yes they obviously turn alot better and brake better than ever, and the Camaro is also very suitable for highway driving and comfortable on bumpy roads, but it isn't enough.

I need to enjoy driving my car and I'm sharing this info for others to read that haven't purchased the Camaro and haven't driven one yet. I'm not saying to listen to me I think you should go drive one. Who knows you mgiht fall in love with one. But, there needs to be criticism here, this fanboy atmosphere of I don't care what you think because you killing the Camaro. I'm entitled to my opinion especially after forking over $35k for a Camaro. And people that haven't purchased one need to see this criticism of the car, because you are on a Camaro forum and it is very unlikely that you will get a non biased opinion because this is the Camaros home for fans.

I've tried to love this car, I really have, but I shouldn't have to. The car has ben so hyped that it falls way short in my opinion. And hopefully GM gets their act together and brings out a Camaro that is better handling and lighter. I will be test driving some 370Z's this weekend and I know they will be a fun car to drive nothing is final in my decision yet, but the Camaro ma have just lost another valued cutomer that GM needs!
I fully disagree,I have a road in my back yard that is the mother of all hairpin and uphill pulls, I don't go too wild on it any more since a friend died over a cliff in his Viper 8 years ago, I think although its the size of your ballz more than anything on this road I find my RS/SS M6 to be the best on it to date! I have driven the pants off of a 1986 Porsche 928s,2002 Lexus IS300,2004 Audi S8, 2000 Acura Integra GS-R. I love the Camaro!! I hope you find what you are looking for!

Stereotypes suck,, and they have been stuck on the vette like that for some time.
I like the sterotypes you mentioned. Although most of them are gone these days as the Vette has priced itself out of the reach of most everyone except those making big bucks.

The flipside of the sterotype coin is a lot of my friends hear me talking about buying a Camaro and they ask me, "when are you going to grow your mullet", or "make sure you have your RedNeck card with you". So much like the current Vette, the current Camaro has put itself in a different price league that has definitely outgrown it's stereotypes, even though the masses have not caught up to it.

Ok,
You bought the wrong car buddy. No bid deal. I have made more mistakes than I can shake a stick at but its not the car that is the problem. You anticipated the wrong thing with a Camaro. Its half muscle and half sports car. Its two cars in one. Great looks and great sound.
I have one on order and also own a 2009 SRT8 Challenger and its pure muscle.. and I dont care, I bought it for the looks and the hemi and got what I expected.
Chill out dud..

same here. I do really love the Camaro too though as I realize its for different purposes than my C6.

Now on the other hand Camaro873, why in the heck if you have had Vette`s would you buy a 370, that is a two seat sports car like the vette, but the Vette runs rings around it. The Camaro and the Vette were never meant to compete against each other.

For me I bought the Camaro for the looks, 4 seats, I have 2 little ones and and plans for drag racing straight line performance ala Whipplecharger when avail. The Vette is for corner carving, taking the top out on a warm spring day on a date w/ the wife, kids w/ a sitter ect... They each have their own purpose for me.

Oh well, can't please everyone.. Sell it and move on. Life's too short. I absolutely love mine and certainly don't expect a 36K car to handle like my 80K Z06, the Camaro is a muscle car, and the best one at that.

Huh?? why would you not test drive your car before you BUY it? Sure you couldn't drive it before you ordered it but that order doesn't put you in a binding contract to make you buy it. I ordered way back on the first day in October but I still drove it before I signed all the paper work and actually bought the car. I loved the car then and I love it more now.

And if your looking for a damn near supercar, why don't you put about 10k into your camaro which could buy you damn close to, if not over 600hp with a reliable supercharger kit, exhaust, and suspension spring, bushing, and sway bar upgrades? Then you'd have all of your gripes covered for WAY less than an equivalent other car.

Just a thought... or you could spend over 100k on a ZR1 vette. Hmm...half the price, damn near all the performance after modified...my money goes to the Camaro, and I'll have a helluva lot more fun getting it there!

Interesting review in Road and Track this month titled "best driver's car."

Out of the field of 10, Camaro finished 10th.
