Need help... HUD is installed all is working well...but i have two issues.

1. The Onstar Light is on and RED. I hit the button and nothing happens.

2. When I use the dimmer for the lights in the car. . all it does is dim the Ambient light on the doors and the blue circle around the gauges. . NOT the gauges itself. I did this with out the 4 pack gauge cluster in. . But couldn't image that would make a difference at all.

I hit the onstar button to see if I could call them and it won't to anything.. .just beeps once in a while.

No clue what happened. . .

I checked all the connections/ fuses and what not. . the dash lights will not dim. . . It may be the switch, but I can't see how it could be since there was no power in the car the entire time I worked on it.

Onstar? Don't know either. . I hit the button on the mirror and all it does is Beep every couple seconds.

My onstar button went red, it was the antenna connection behind the glove box.

I pulled out the glove box today and re-did all the plugs. . .still red...

It may just be the software freaking out because you had the battery unplugged for several hours/days. Might have to take it in to get it reset by a dealership.

make sure no terminals got bent over or wires got backed out at the connector for the dimmer. also did you get the ambient lighting as part of the harness for the hud. if so doesn't the ambient light dim with the cluster....can't remember with my car off hand. you could disconnect the hud harness put back to stock basically and see if it dimmer works. any ses lights or codes?

He did that last night and there was no difference, I think that he has 1 of 2 things going on, 1: connector or connectors or fuse is blown, 2: it may have sat to long with power off and the BCM lost part of its program's

I checked all fuses and they all seem to be ok.

Took out the glove box and unplugged and replugged the onstar unit... nothing.

Don't want to order a new switch if I don't have to. I'll meet up with my buddy some time and swap head light switches.

(kind of regretting this now. )

don't regret it, these things can happen even being a mechanic. Just part of the job sometimes. as far as the on star problem did you go thru a service manual diagnostics? best place to start is if you have any codes set? make sure all the ground wires got reconnected I remember several on the right side glove box right off hand. sorry just went back and read the whole thing did you check the small pins on back of the cluster to see if you got one bent over, because you said just the cluster gauges will not dim right? I will look at a schemadic when I get time tomorrow.
