All well and true, Justin.. but how are they going to shed weight? As it stands the Camaro will more likely than not gain weight to better enhance the 'poor safety performance' that the car has shown itself in NHTSAA tests. <_<

Though we ALL HAVE SEEN what happens to the driver of a wrecked Camaro that should have killed him and many other drivers. (Hint: He posts on Camaro5 weeks after the accident)

Also, Agressive gearing has been in the rumor mill for a long time. Add in some aftermarket inspired suspension tweaks and voila, some of the issues are solved. Can they solve them all in 2011? Hell no. Can they solve them by 2012? Most likely and in time for the 45th Anniversary Camaro..

Shedding weight may or may not be insanely difficult. Admittedly I don't know much about the interior materials as far as weight is concerned, and it may or may not be plausible for GM to use some slightly more exotic materials. With regard to the safety requirements, we don't know how GM will solve them. They may reposition airbags slightly, or even use stronger materials elsewhere on the car, which usually implies more exotic, lighter materials in certain sections.

I didn't think it would happen in 2011. Sure, the Mustang might have a slight advantage for a year or two, but at the end of the day it's still going to be Found On the Road Dead. :-P

I congratulate Ford on this improvement, although it still won't be enough to catch mine. That being said, GM will respond with additional features that continue to make the Mustang behind the competition. While performance may be the only true way to measure performance cars, I would stand by the Camaro being the superior product due to better suspension components. If Ford can update this, I think we'll see an even more impressive product.

As for shedding weight, doesn't it already use an aluminum hood? It's got an aluminum engine. I don't see anyway to get much of any weight out of it.
As for aggressive gearing, the fuel economy is already suspect. Decreasing it further , to say 13 mpg in the city isn't going to work. The only other engine they can stick in it is the LS7,and that isn't going to happen. Aside from suspension tweaks, the car pretty much is what it is , till the next generation.

All I know is that by 2014, I want enough saved to buy the last of the muscle cars. One Mustang and one Camaro(Chrysler will be gone by then). It may be the last chance to see an affordable performance car.

Its the anniversary of the debut of the car. The vette wasn't made in 83 but it still had its 50th in 2003.

Yes that is correct, which doesn't coincide with what the meaning of what an anniversary is :(

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anniversary
An anniversary (from the Latin anniversarius, from the words for year and to turn, meaning (re)turning yearly; known in English since c. 1230) is a day that commemorates and/or celebrates a past event that occurred on the same day of the year as the initial event.

One thing that has made me mad about a couple comments. A couple writers have said the challenger and camaro havn't taken advantage and sampled "45 years of mustang dna" what? Yeah i'm real sure GM wanted to sample the 5 years of the mustang II, or the 26 years of the Fox platform.

Wait, forgot the decimal. 4.5th

But, You actually count 74-78 Mustangs as actual 'Mustangs'?

Wow. You mean cracked block from the factory and all.. nice. IMO, in 1976 I'd prefer to drive a Ford Econoline that my grandfather built at the Lorain plant over that.. Pinto with a horse on the fender.
