Then when I was 19, being a car salesmen, my father bought me a 2004 sierra (20s, flowmaster, you name it), I helped him with the payments, but in no way did I flaunt my ride like a 16 year old with a camaro.

No 16 year old should have their hands on a machine like that, that's the parents fault.

I am 26, finally got my real career started as a cop, make good enough money to buy a 1LT camaro and I am happier than a clam because I did it myself. I didn't need help. It's a self-respect matter. Any 16 year old who brags about having a Camaro, should really look at themselves and say "Did my parents do me any favors by buying this for me, or should I work for the thing myself."

My father managed Chevy dealers for years, and had the money to buy me anything I wanted at 16, but he made me drive my mothers Volvo. And let me drive whatever I wanted when I worked with him. Sure it was a tease, but he showed me that if you work hard for what you want, and if the timing is right, then not only will the people around you be appreciative of your effort and your reward, but you can hold your head high and say "I deserve it, because I worked for it.

"America is the land where we judge you by what you do, not by who your father was."
-Colonel Josh Chamberlain, 20th Maine, US Civil War

I think we need to judge people for who they are, not by what their father bought them.

My dad was the same, I've owned a lot of cars in my life, I paid every single one in full, the insurance the gas the repairs, the mods, everything. Never handed a thing in my life EVER. Do I think it builds character and can be of moral and ethical value, yes. Do I think these kids need to be lectured to and flamed, NO. These are probably in most cases all awesome youngens and should be respected until they prove otherwise. Our digital ranting can not undo 16 years of the type of environment they've been acclimated to. Hey who am I to judge others parenting skills? I will probably be much like my father. I know kids I was in school with that got financially secure parents to buy them hot rods, some of the kids died and some just had to wreck a few more cars before they learned responsibility. I have one buddy from a very well off family had a brand new 1st year 5.0, he's never had a wreck or ticket in his life. A lot of time people are driven to flame as they may feel jealous they weren't born into that type of lifestyle, me myself, I am grateful for the "character" I feel my parents helped me grow into. Main point, it's sure as hell not the 16 year olds fault he's got an AWESOME RIDE. I suppose if you must, ask for his parents phone number? LOLOLOLOLOL! OK I'm done.

There is nothing wrong with your mom or dad buying you the car. Just don't try and BS us that you and you alone are buying a nearly 40K car. It ain't happening.
+1
16 year olds cannot earn a legit income to make a several hundred dollar a month payment plus a few hundred a month for sky high insurance and put gas and what not in a ss camaro..... oh and still go to school. So if your maybe paying for part of the car then be honest about it.

I know a guy who had a very successful construction business prior to the housing boom bust. This guy was making a killing. He went out and bought his son a new cobra stang and his daughter a v6 stang. The son turned out to be a major dope quit school never got a job etc. Well now dad went bankrupt lost their 5000 sq ft house......nobody learned a thing there. At one point he had a new triple motor 36ft contender boat with ford f350 dually to pull it and a f150 4x4 lifted on 44s and a c6 vette plus the 2 stangs for the kids and a 1 million dollar house. Now renting and drivin a used ford ranger. Messed up stuff......but the kids were pimpin for a few yrs

Maybe my dad who worked 2 to 3 jobs at a time my whole life probably wouldn't have bought me cars if we were rich, but sorry kid, where I come from and how I was brought up, your dad could buy all those cars and you're not rich? Brother let me tell you, you may not be spoiled from your viewpoint, but you are naive. I mean this as no insult,I am glad you've accomplished so much and have been so privileged, but there are a many walks of life who's father can't even get or hold a job let alone those that have to work 2 or 3 jobs to just get by. I think your perspective is only off due to your youthful naiveté, natural at your age and a product of your excellent environment you're privileged enough to enjoy. In no way do I care to upset you though I thought I'd be kind enough to share how much lack of social etiquette some may interpret in some of your remarks. You're very fortunate to have such a wonderful set of parents that they are able to afford such awesome care for their kids!

Enjoy your car, feel free to read my prior posts!

Bought the Trans Am when I was 16 and a week before I could get my license on my own money and a small loan from my dad. Some people just work hard early so they can get what they want. I got the Camaro on my own at 20. But no I don't make threads about my cars and my age cuz it doesn't matter how old I am. Just matters that I love my cars and enjoy being a part of the car community.

I agree with the OP don't hate just cuz he's 16. It irks me too when people get stuff handed to them from their parents too since I busted by butt to get what I got. Doesn't mean I'm gunna troll them about it, I'm gunna say congrats, nice car and move on.

There are plenty of people on this forum who are under 18 and have had parents purchase new Camaros for them. A good percentage, probably majority shows respect for their car and for the members of this forum. They show intelligence and care towards what they have been given and I have no issue with that whatsoever. If anyone is given the opportunity to have something nice and they make good on it, more power to them.

The people I do have a problem with are the kids who jump on this forum who are either extremely arrogant and disrespectful or can't pass the smell test (cough really don't have a Camaro). There is no problem with being proud about about owning a Camaro or having something nice even if it was given to you, but some of these posters get way out of control. That is not say that is limited to the under 18 age group, they just seem to be the majority......

I seen many middle aged men that don't respect a Camaro. I've seen many teenagers respect high powered cars. It on the individual age doesn't mean anything
