I imaged them not being there. I like them better in the tail lights themselves.

That's where they should have been all along in my opinion...in the middle of the inboard tail lights on the early version.
But I never hated them in the bumper either.

Z/28 Tail lights

Not Im not sure if Im the only one seeing it, but to me it screams 2nd 3rd gen design tail lights. I sitll can't say Im a fan of them yet, I need to see them in person, everyone who has actually walked up to the car now has a different opinion. Thank god that they got rid of the back up markers in the middle of the bumper. I would bet my life that was a mistake at the time and someone overlooked it. Still think they should have beeen moved to around the license plate like the C6 Vette, that way they could throw a lot of light but hey it still looks great.

Oddly enough I like the bulb Z verison more then the LED version, who knew.

And as for the Z/28

I haven't seen the 2014 in person but all i know when I get behind a 2010-2013 Camaro in traffic I think every time man that rear end of that car is stunning. I honestly feel bad for the camaro design team who had to come up with new idea's to change it when they hit a home run the first time. Perhaps it might be a case of if it isn't broke don't fix it. If i see the new change's in person and they grow on me i will be the first to admit i was wrong but that remains to be seen.

Still looks too similar to a Prelude to me:

So for 2016 the homage is to what? The 1970 - 73 Tail Lights are nearly like what they moved away from so .... maybe these?

I think the first lights reminded me of a 1968 Biscane with the lights turned upside down. This generation or reiteration of tail lamp sort of reminds me still of the Biscane but from 1967. I would think if they were going for the original Z tail lamps they would of added the chrome to them. I mean lets face it surrounding the boxes in the lamps would of made it more obvious. I too think it is a fail especially with the wrap around that serves no purpose but to be there since they left the quarter light on the lower part of the panel.

yeah I owned a 68 when I was in high school so I pretty much remember them as being just like the camaros now that you posted a pic I am pretty sure. Only difference was the reverse light was in the center two just like your pic.
