Not trying to get into the is this real or not thing. Just would like to contribute to this issue and state that last year I was out and it started snowing lightly so I went and did donuts in the parking lot at the end of my street and it caused my power steering to go out. I was able to muscle it back in the driveway but if I would have been at speed I probably would have crashed. Once the car was in the driveway and parked it was almost impossible to turn the wheel. I ended up having to have the car towed. Also I have not received my recall letter yet. However I have received multiple letters from dealers wanting to buy my car lately.

When my winter beater 95 Firebird lived up to its name and caught fire in rush hour traffic about 10yrs ago I lost power assist when the engine cut out.

With smoke billowing out the hood edges I crossed through the green light and made a right turn into a parking lot.

I continued to the right of the parking lot away from all other cars gathered my cell and wallet called 911 and watched it burn.

The FD Station was 2 blocks away if it would have caught fire sooner I could have used their parking lot

So its not impossible to drive without PS but it takes some effort.

Sorry OP. Just watched the VID and why on earth would anyone (especially your size) have the seat all the way up like that? I use to be a PI for insurance fraud. Would love to do a surveillance to see if you drive that close all the time. I seriously doubt it.
How would even get in and out of the car without moving the set?

3am??
2months ago??

just seems really fishy to me.

I hope everything works out for you OP. Just curious why you posted this pic ~~

You can tell by the amount of Jack Screw exposed, the seat is either all the way back, or very close to it. That is almost exactly where mine is, and I am 6'2" also, and no way can I switch my ignition with my knee, not even intentionally.

With the seat all the way in the position you showed in the video, the Jack screw, in fact the whole lower bracket is not only completely covered, the upper bracket actually extends past the lower bracket.

Like I said, glad you are ok and hope everything works out for you, just confused with the photo selection.

I thinky someone had a few too many cocktails that night with a floater of 580HP.
Your seat is obviously way back and in no way the position in the video.

Probably would have been better just fighting with GM than on here as now holes have been exposed in your story.

Wait a damn minute dude. I am all for giving people the benefit of the doubt but these pictures just sealed it for me.

First picture, if you extend your leg right there you are nowhere near the key fob.

I don't care one way or another but don't try and bullshit people dude. That shit happened all the time in the Corps. That shit doesn't work anymore. You are not impressing anyone. If it did happen the way you say it did, well that sucks. Move your f*cking seat back.

Did you slide your seat all the way up to take this picture?

I would say the next time you get drunk at 3 am and decide to check the validity if the keyfob recall with your buds, you should do it in your driveway in park. I don't doubt that maybe you did shut the car off with your knee. It's the rest of the story that doesn't make sense for most of us. If I'm wrong I sincerely apologize.

What's the verdict, judge? Pics are the tell all. You definitely moved it up.

Where's your integrity marine? If I was investigating you and I found those pics. I'd have to not rule in your favor.

I just cannot grasp how someone can crash a car just because it shut off. It still has brakes and can steer. Moving, you dont need alot of strength to steer. I dont know anyone who's been able to shut a Camaro off without making concentrated attempts, and even at that it was very un natural movements and several deliberate tries to make it happen.

When teens learn to drive, it should be taught what to do when a car shuts off and its not. Im not implying your a teen , thats just when people learn to drive, hence the mention. It takes literally seconds to re-start the car, push the clutch in on a manual and throw in neutral on a auto. Seconds. People dont learn this basic stuff anymore and its why cars have to be dumb driver proof anymore with all these fail safe nannies and cars are recalled because the key fob is not stupid proof for the dumbest of people.

Not trying to be a dick and sorry you wrecked your car, but this accident should not have happened.

I see no way you touched that pedal unless your one leg is about 6" longer than the other.

Also keep in mind that GM watches this forum, you have already given them enough ammo to call your bluff.

Why are you posting on the internet if this is indeed a valid claim? Why are you not going to your insurance if this is a valid claim and "expensive" to fix?

Overall way to give GM and others the ammo they need to deny your claim.

Lastly, I'm 6'0" and pretty much all legs. My legs come no where near the key and my seat is not all the way back.

This thread cracks me up man. Between the pics/video of the OP, homero's feet and legs and the funny comments.

The problem with a Camaro is that it doesn't have steering when the car is off. The steering wheel locks in place when the key is turned to the off position, which probably has something to do with the electronic steering that the car has.

I do agree though that you should still be able to stop before hitting anything even without steering.

Edit: the steering lock is only engaged when the key is removed or the key hasn't been turned to acc position. Once turned to the acc position the steering won't lock until the key is removed.

Have to admit, I'm having a hard time believing this as well. My knee comes nowhere near the key. If it's a true story then sorry for what happened. If not, then the only question I have is why post BS? What could one possibly hope to gain by posting something like this on Camaro5?
