A clutch should never stink. I bought mine with 2 miles on it, has never stunk once. I've bought several Vettes with 1 or 2 miles on them, never stunk. To make a clutch stink, it is way overheated from slipping.

Didn't there use to be a STICKY somewhere here that had a running list of TSB's ... If not there should be one so everyone can stay informed on service issues.

I really hate to say it but I am having the same issue as well. From time to time, I noticed that my clutch will "stick". Then just yesterday low and behold I noticed that there was a very slight "stutter" when first gear and reverse are engaged and I had a little bit of smoke coming from underneath my hood after I came home from work. Of course I got off too late to get in touch with anyone at the service dept. AND today is Sunday. The car still drives fine except for this small issue (and I will take it in before it gets worse). This would be the second time I would be taking my baby in to have something looked at. Back in Feb., I took it in because according to the service manager the power steering just "came apart". My car has less than 6000 miles on her...

Barely made it.
I dropped mine off Saturday because I literally could not drive another mile.
1 1 , 9 9 8 miles on the odometer. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Just got a call from the dealer. They said the were going to replace the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate and the throwout bearing.
That's why my fleet is all GM!

I just ordered a 2011 ss, and my biggest fear is this clutch problem many seem to be having. I know how dealers treat these situations, since my 2005 350Z had clutch issues that the dealer ignored, whats really sad the tech drove my car and another and was able to feel the difference, but told me there was nothing they can do, since it still functioned. I don't want to rant on Nissan's service here, but I'm sure Chevy isn't much better.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like there are new part numbers, does this mean that GM internally is correcting the problem, and newer cars will get the new parts. I'm hoping that the 2011's will not have this problem, I don't have the patience to deal with the service dept that probably knows there is a problem, but is covering it up.

YES.
From what I have read they did a running change in production. So I would not worry about a 2011 or a late 2010.
I bought my car in Sept 2009 and they told me they had it more than a month on the lot and it has the problem. The good news it the dealer said they are going to pull my trans. So I am guessing I am getting a new clutch and maybe a trans repair. Because my clutch hangs up (does not engauge, pedal stays down) on a high RPM slip type launch, AND my trans will not shift to second if I am above 5000 RPM (just grinds). My service Guy is a dork, but he said they are pulling my trans..............

It's probably not the trans! Gm has made a revised pressure plate for the clutch which I have on my car and the pedal doesn't stick anymore! The shifting problem is supposedly the throw out bearing on the hydraulic clutch set up! Gm has a revised throw out bearing with a longer throw which will help the clutch fully disengage! Mine had that problem too before my new bearing also! But if they find a problem with ur tranny let me know but mine wouldn't shift above 5700 but would go in like butter below that!

I just came from my dealer. They actually let me go and talk to the tech that is going to work on my car. He called GM and they said for him to drive another Camaro and if the clutch stuck then it was normal. Of course I don't think he is going to grab a new car sitting there and go do a slipper launch with it. Even if he did I would win because the new cars have the new clutch and throwout bearing and most likely the clutch won't stick.
My car also started grinding on the 1-2 shift above 5000 rpm. I strongly think it is because of the old design throwout bearing not having enough travel and is starting to wear OR the clutch disc is warped from all the unintended abuse. Either way, he is pulling my car apart to fix the grinding and I do believe he is going to replace the clutch etc as a good measure of insurance. He had already looked up all the Part Numbers for everything and had them when I went to see him today. So he is going to take my trans apart and replace the 2nd gear syncros and blocker rings etc AND give me a new clutch etc. Nothing is carved in stone so we will see what happens. They are too busy so he can't take my car apart till later this week. BUT they did reproduce BOTH problems with my car so I do have it confirmed and in writing.

My car was built April 7, Serial #208281, and I've done some pretty mean stuff to it in the past month I've had it. Aside from a very very faint smell when driving in heavy traffic the first day I had it, my clutch has provided no problems whatsoever.
It actually is a whole lot more drivable now than it was when new, guess that's just part of the breaking in process and me getting used to it. Where I'm going with this... They may in fact be using the new pressure plate and/or master cylinder. I'm gonna do some hard launches and try out the launch control in another couple weeks. I'll advise what I find.

Got the car back today.
They replaced all the parts listed earlier in this thread and the slave cylinder, too. ![]() Had a bit of a smell after getting up to temp. The smell stopped after a couple miles and I wasn't shifting at all during that time. I'm writing this off to greasy hands or a spill on the exhaust. The peddle had a lighter feel and it shifted just fine. I wasn't sure the best way to break in a new clutch, so I took it real easy on the way home . Any thoughts? |
