Thats what I thought also. My 98 has the same type of setup from SLP new air lid and filter good for 10-12hp on the dyno, just cleans up and adds to airflow, and the ram air duct going down from the bottom of the box and in front of the radiator, worth a reported equivelant of 10-15 hp on a v8 at the end of the 1/4 based on mph increase . Also helps maybe starting at about 40 mph? Most of the around town feel is the better flowing box setup and the cold air you will get.

I dunno. It says it in the instructions.
Looks easy enough, if you have a dremel, which I do. Anybody in so cal can bring their brackets over here and I'll cut them.

Anyone in the Midwest region wanting to get some seat time on that new Vararam next month can come check this out. Not trying to highjack the thread.

It's more than just 5hp. Ram air it straight uninterrupted air being forced in. Roommate in the service had a WS6 35th annv. with a Ram air system but before it had a regular CAI. And he said Ram air was the best thing he did and that you can feel the difference between the 2 asap. Like Some have said here and VR also has said. That the tubed intakes will 99% of the time run better on a dyno. But in the real world road driving and drag racing the Ram air will be the winner, even at low speeds. And I have rode in the WS6 with both intakes, that's why I waited for this.

Are there any gauges out on the market that have multi gauges and a accurate on the road dyno function? Mostly looks for 0-60, 1/4 mile, AF, and some kind of dyno.

In order to help out people that prefer a hands on look at the install process, I'll post up a 4-part video series (damn Youtube length limitations!!) of the install process tomorrow from work, my internet connection at home is too slow for uploads tonight. It's pretty much in real-time and runs a total of 38 minutes. The first 11 minutes are removing the stock setup, the remaining parts cover the Vararam install.

Personally, I think the install process is fairly straightforward and easy but if you don't think so after watching the videos, then let me know.

As for cutting the brackets, it's really not that difficult to do. If you have a Dremel cutoff tool, it should be pretty quick. Heck, I originally cut one of my brackets with a hack saw and it only took a couple of minutes max. For those that are concerned about cutting up the brackets, you can buy replacements from your dealer for about $10 each and cut those ones up instead. For the rest of us that don't mind making this modification to our brackets, I'm sure we'd prefer that option over Vararam having to raise the cost of every kit by $20+ just to include "pre-cut" brackets.

As much as I'd love to, there is just no way I could believe this or any CAI could add 40 HP on top of the stock 312. Of course we have seen 25+ just on the dyno alone (and hopefully more dynos will back that up), so if that is the case then I bet you could expect a bit more on the road, but 40 sounds very optimistic lol. Who knows??

All I know is, if all it took was a better intake to take this engine from 312 to 352 HP, GM NEEDS to do a similar intake like this from the factory, and then reap the rewards when they can advertise 350HP and 30MPGs lol.

Why would they put 30/30 in the instructions though?
Even when we dyno'd the original design, the gains everyone keeps pointing at were "PEAK" gains. Take a look at the dyno chart at 5000 rpms...The gains there in both HP and TQ are decent over stock. Is it a 30/30 gain (at the wheels)?

I've always said that my car dyno'd lower than what would be expected from a manual V6. First time out @1500 miles - 232hp? WTF? .....Maybe it was a fluke right? Did runs on 2 other dynos at later dates and max I hit was 251hp but the car would dyno around 244hp all day long, even as recently as the month before I went Vararam. My Camaro is (well, was ) a weak a$$ car for a 312hp V6 M6 car from the factory. All I can say now is that I'm glad Vararam finally brought this intake to market.

Rolnso, when you make that video, give us a minute count where we can come in with the intake in place removed already. I want to get right to the VR install. LOL

Already a step ahead of you.

Thanks to Youtube video length limits, I've already split the video up. Each video will have it's own link. Even if you've already got a non-stock intake installed, check out the last 5 minutes or so of the first video to make sure you remove all of the stock pieces that need to come out.

Part 1: Removing the stock setup.
Part 2: Installing the air scoop.
Part 3: Installing the lower portion of the Vararam intake.
Part 4: Installing the remaining stuff.

Wait a sec, I distinctly remember asking about this "issue" many pages back, and I believe VR said they made a modification so we don't have to alter our brackets. I think they said they were using longer bolts or something??
