Thanks for taking the time to do the write up, My dad and i got alittle curious when the 5/16 sticks were inserted so we used his borescope camera to look into the cam journal. I read that some recommend to replace the cam bolt if you stay with the single bolt as i did (custom grind). Thanks for all the info, here are our pics.

Best DIY I've ever seen. You are a prince among men.

I'm an old gen1 small block guy and I was reluctant to do one myself without knowing more. I was unsure about the cam sensor. Not having to pull the lifters is great.

One point though. I am very leary of using the Top dead piston method to hold the valves for the spring swap. As the valve are not perpendicular to the pistons you are stopping the valve with one edge of it only. If you get any bind or stuck locks you can bend the valve when you crank down the removal tool.

Use the air method, with the piston at top dead. If the air seal breaks at the same time the locks pop loose, the valve will only drop a hair. And you have no risk of bending them.

Wow, awesome! Never would have thought about trying this until reading this. I'm with you, hadn't even done an oil change till I got this car.

Subscribed, bookmarked, PDF downloaded, backed up, and printed. Should be good.

I have one question when you were topping off the trans fluid how exactly did you do this?
You said you just waited for it to spill over but where would it spill over from?

Great how to.. A little warning though every cam install should also include a P2V check especially if you can't degree the cam in. There are several cams out there that run awful close on P2V and if the cam is slightly advanced or retarded due to stacked tolerances in timing chain, cam grind, etc. you can be in trouble quick!
