I'm glad the Camaro is back, but....... the only Mustangs that they want to talk about are the ones they can out run, I know I'm a guest here and don't want to piss off the bowtie boys, but I do have to say that it is their fault the Mustang GT has not had any competition and has gotten soft Ford does build fast Mustangs, but the GT is the only one that is in the Camaro SS class ????? but that defiantly does not make the Camaro the top dog. GT500 and the Roush Mustangs get that title.

And lets see. Since '99 the cobra has had 320 horsepower, and then was bumped up to an underrated 390 in '03? I'd say we've been on par or beating your LSJuan stock for stock for the last ten years.
The 99 Cobra. Oh please, do not even bring that lemon into the same discussion with the fire breathing 03-04 model.

I wonder what the stock Camaro SS will run compared to the 03/04 Mach 1. They were rated at 305 HP. I had one new and was pleased with the performance. Stock the best time I had was 13.26 @ 106.26 and with drag radials it would hover around the high 12's. My Z06 can still pull high 12's with 90k miles. Funny thing was I saved 400 bucks a year going from the Mach to the Z 06.

I am an old Mopar guy that switched to Mustangs in the mid 80's and ended up with a Vette...go figure. And so you can have some laughs I have never been in a Camaro of any year. Never driven one or ridden in one. I think in early 2010 that might change now that the Vette is pushing 100k miles. Heck my Vette is the only GM car I have ever owned!

The Mach 1s were a little slower than the 4th gen fbodies. The new SS should easily be faster than both (hence the 111mph trap speed). When some good drivers get behind the wheel, I wouldn't be surprised to see 12.6-12.7 stock.

1. That was from a Mustang mag. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords.
2. The driver was Evan Smith - a well known drag racer and Mustang enthusiast.
3. I would say the people working for that mag have more credibility than you.

Of course, if you have some "cred" let us know.

Oh wait, since 2002 the Fbody wasn't in production. So from '99 to '02, mustangs were just as powerful from the factory, then no one bought Camaros or Firebirds so they stopped making them. Clear victory for the blue oval.
'99-'02 Cobras were DOGS and you know it... as a matter of fact, all of the modular V8s were dogs until they put a blower on them... even now, they're dogs until you put a blower on them... and the 2002 Z28 was faster than the 4.6 GT, it ran dead even with the "underrated" 390hp Terminators because the LS1 is underrated and the Terminator weighed more... I know because I raced them stock for stock at San Antonio Raceway

the last time a stock NA Mustang beat a stock NA Camaro was in 1995, when some of the GTs (which still had 5.0L V8s) were able to outrun the LT1 cars... in 1996, Ford introduced the 4.6L mod motor and it took them until '99 to get it past 300hp, and even then, it wasn't as fast as the LS1 f-bodies.

quit benchracing and quote some real world numbers.

why, exactly, do you think that they should talk about anything other than the GT? its the only Mustang in their price range, stock for stock... but if you'd like to make a quick comparison to the GT500, a stock GT500 ran a slightly quicker ET with the same trap speed back in 2007, I believe... like a 12.8@111mph? so for about $5,000 less than a just below MSRP GT500, you're 2 tenths of a second slower through the quarter mile.

is that better? do you feel better now that we've talked about the GT500? would you like to throw around some Roush numbers for us? maybe tell us how much the Roush costs compared to the 2010 Camaro SS?

that statement is true, gotta check you on it bud. 03 cobra's run 12.7-12.9 bone stock, obviously that person you raced must have been a HORRIBLE driver. 02 z28's where in the mid 13's.

prove me wrong.

so, what you're saying is that you never take a race you know you can't win? or maybe you just shut down and use that as an excuse as soon as you get the jump against someone? would you like us to put you in contact with some 4th gen SS drivers in NY that would be happy to show you what the rear end of a Camaro looks like while on a dragstrip?
