I sold my LT headers. I must admit that was one of the biggest factors that had me on the fence about doing this project. I loved the sound of those LT headers.
But at least you're replacing them with the sweet sound of turbos!

Personally, I would have kept my headers and had them fabricate a dual path pipe to get the exhaust gases to the turbos. Or, perhaps a rear mounting TT kit. Just my .02 cents.

I think that would defeat the purpose of the turbos.

I have a feeling that a 427 with a cam and 3" exhaust will sound pretty good even with the turbos muffling it a bit.

(at least I hope so.)

Besides, I think the PSHHHHHHHHHHHHH! sounds pretty cool.

Congrats on the build. That thing is going to be sick.
The above photos would shock me about as much as if I had walked into the middle of my own heart surgery.

Well you should hear your TT's regardless of your exhaust, I hear my blow off valve, and my SC and my exhaust is very loud.

Was there a technical reason why you could not keep headers or some other dis-advantage or reason? Just curious.

If you want loud just run open wastegates. The second you hit boost it will sound almost like open headers. Thats how my TT kit is now. Its all quite untill I hit boost and then it sounds pissed off. The look on peoples faces is priceless.

Keeping longtube headers doesn't make sense because of exhaust routing for the turbos. It would make the routing awkward and space is at a premium when doing twins. Using stock manifolds is pretty common. You can build a custom set of headers (I had a set made for my turbo Lightning build) but it's not necessary as the stock manifolds will move enough air in most cases. I have a friend with a 1300+ rwhp compound boost '03 Cobra and he uses his stock manifolds.

with the amount of power that will be pushed through the headers, you wont see that big of a difference from getting an expensive set of custom headers made. just turn that boost knob up a little more!

We're talking about a vehicle that has headers already. My point was just make some custom pipe instead of trashing the headers already purchsed.
So, I think the question was answered, and seems that generally if you already have them there is no reason you can't continue to use them on a TT installation.
I can't recall 100% but I'm pretty sure I saw one done this way at my shop last summer. I'm going to ask as I'm just curious about it.

I was asking because I saw a post that "headers could not be used with turbos" which I questioned because I know there are ways you can use headers and turbos.
Therefore, it seems to me that it's really personal preference if you have or want headers and TT's, not a technical reason that you "can't" use headers on a TT install.
I've seen rear mounted TT's with headers so was wondering if that was a messed up setup, or dis-advantage / advantages to using / not using headers with TT's.

I have a feeling putting the turbos at the end of LT headers may cause clearance issues, especially on lowered cars. I had trouble getting cutouts to fit next to my tranny right behind the LT headers without causing ground clearance issues. This is particularly true of automatic transmission cars.
