I am not quite finished. Need to add the catch can and a few other tweaks. Once i do that I will detail the bay and THEN, I will remove the sticker to announce to the world who my cai's manufacturer is. It is a beautiful product and it definately makes the car more powerful. I love the way I can hear the air box depressurize when I turn the ignition off.

Please explain. The whole bottom of the box is open to take air in from outside the engine bay, correct? There's no way for it to hold pressure (or vacuum, for that matter, which is really what would happen).

Immediately after you turn off the car there is a "PSSSsssss" sound from the intake. That sound is probably what he is referring to.

I have not heard that before. I wonder what the source is.

I have that too. It also became more pronounced with the Ported TB.

Until you get to the intake valves themselves, nothing in the intake is sealed to any degree that would hold pressure or trap air. The air box is open to outside air. The air filter media allows air to freely pass through. The throttle body plate does not seal when closed--particularly the ported TB, which has more gap around the plate edge than the stock TB, thanks to the porting process. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I just don't get why it does. I wonder instead if it's some fuel pressure bleed off that's occurring, and echoing back out the more open intake.

I contacted a few of the intake manufacturers yesterday and none of them had a solid answer to what the cause of that sound is. Just theories but none of them ever had any reason to research it in depth. In my experience it is something that occurs with any aftermarket intake system. I have noticed it on every kind of vehicle from Saturns to Silverados. I would be interested to know the answer though.

The fact that u have one air mass is actively being pulled into the intake and another air mass surrounding it will cause a pressure differential. This is in fact what allows aircraft to fly: If you have faster moving air on top of the wing and slower moving air under the wing. The faster moving air is at a lower pressure than the slower air under the wing, which is at a higher pressure producing lift. Its called the Bernoulli effect. I am certain the pressure inside the intake and air box is lower than the air surronding it outside the car and inside the engine bay. I can see the higher pressure air rushing to the lower pressure air mass creating this sound.

While I get your meaning, I don't think it applies here. Air at atmospheric pressure is rushing into the vacuum created by the intake continuously while the motor runs. This produces, in part, the intake noise we hear, and which is more pronounced with a cold air intake.
However, as soon as the engine vacuum is turned off, the intake returns to atmospheric pressure immediately. There is no sealed area that has to bleed off over the course of a few seconds, and as such this return to atmospheric pressure is virtually instantaneous, and should not generate a noise that persists after the engine is turned off. While I have had college level physics courses (including learning about Bernoulli's principle), I am not a physicist, and certainly could be wrong. But if air pressure or vacuum bleed off is the source of this sound, I have to think it's produced by something other than the air box, intake tube, or intake manifold.
