Tail lights are bland. No definition. Did my 2010 become more of a collector in 20 years.

I agree with you SSPOLO. Those of us on the boards make up a very small percentage of Camaro buyers. While I'm not a big fan of the rear end of the refreshed car, I'm sure it will still sell just fine until the redesign comes out. Just like the new corvette and its camaro like tail lights that had purists cursing GM, the car will eventually grow on us.
When the 5th gen camaro design was released I had to take it in for a few weeks before I admitted that I liked it. It just seemed too porky and huge because I was trying to compare it to a first gen car. And now with all the aftermarket stuff available for our cars they're pretty much like a blank canvas waiting to be personalized. Give it some time and a SEMA show or two and there will be a ton of stuff out for the 2014 car that will allow us to make the changes we want. When I bought my 5th gen camaro, the first thing I did was remove the giant gold bowties from the grill and trunk and replace them with the SLP SS badges. That made a huge difference to me in the way the car looks. Let's give it time and see what the aftermarket comes up with for the 2014 camaro.

Actually, GM did listen. How do you think we got a 5th gen that was as close to the concept as possible in the first place.

While we are enthusiasts and passionate about the Camaro, it is not ours to design. It's also not done by one person. Trust me, there is no one guy designing tailights; it is all voted, approved, and re-voted by committee. These folks have jobs and they are the pros. Calling for heads and jobs is childish. You buy what they come up with or not. Change it as you see fit. Love it or hate it. They have real feelings and emotions and they all work hard and I believe they think they have done the best for Chevy and GM or they would not have done it. Am I crazy about all the changes? Nope. The truth is, time marches on and people call for change; it's a fact of life.
If you are a better designer, go to school. Build your own. Become a designer. Prove you're better. I am so tired of the nay-sayers on the board making general comments about subjective topics such as, "Redesign the dash completely with something that doesn't look like sh%t." Really? Put your money where your mouth is. Draw a concept up. Post it here to open critique. Can you draw? Can you hack it? Is your idea that good? Better yet; gut your car. Build what you like West Coast Custom-style; from scratch. Spend your money to do it better. Post pics. Let the forum decide if you are better and brigther. See if your skin is thick enough. I love my 2013. I loved my 2010. When I first ordered my 2010 I thought they hit a home run with the entire car...but the tailights. You know what? They grew on me. They have become part of what I expected Camaro to be every time I looked in the garage; every time one drove past. How dare they change it? ![]() This, to, shall pass. It's still a great car. How many more were you going to buy? GM needs to attract a new buyer to keep selling. It is not a Checker cab or an old Beetle. To FBodfather and all of the other folks involved, thanks for all you do, and thanks for having the thick skin on days like today. I know it's not always easy. |

No one needs to be fired. Yes there were focus groups. Is it any surprise that on a website devoted to the 5th gen that there would be an overwhelming majority who don't like the changes? I'm fairly certain when the 6th gen comes out that there will be an uproar on here because many of us bought our 5th gens because that's what we liked... so when someone changes what we like, of course there's going to be backlash. Just like there was a ton of backlash on the Corvette Stingray and the "Camaro taillights" -- it's been a few months and now all the reviews are positive. Quote:
The 4th generation camaro was the baddest Camaro in its time... It was a pure performance machine built for the enthusiasts and was absolutely raping the Mustang on the streets... What it DOES show, though, is that building a car 100% to the enthusiasts (ala 4th gen) does not make it a sales success. Look at the Pontiac G8 -- heralded to performance enthusiasts for a RWD performance sedan from GM... yet sales figures were dismal because it didn't connect to the average buyer needing an "A to B car" to go to the grocery store with.Quote:

Sorry - I highly doubt anyones 5th gen is going to be a collector in 20 years unless it's a COPO, ZL1, or some special dealership model (Berger, Nickey, etc). Far too many people are buying the 5th gens and keeping them locked up in the garage thinking they have a future collectible... It just doesn't work that way.

Let's see, people complained about the non-functional mail slot. Guess what, that's gone.
People hated the C7 tail lights, now everyone wants them on the refresh? I'm not a fan of the tail lights on either the C7 or this redesign, but I didn't like the tail lights on the original 5th Gen either. Guess what, I don't mind them at all now. Overall, I don't think this will be a flop. Most people will get over the differences they don't like with their first impression and concentrate on the things they do like.

GM will say exactly what they have been saying to the C7 Corvette critics,
"we understand design, you just don't get it", or some such. They always know best. |

What amuses me is that the negative commentary on this restyle is hardly any different from the chatter on the Mustang forums following the 2010 restyle of that car.

Bland taillights are something I could deal with if that was the only thing. But the overly fussy treatment - the bumper cover is notched out for them - is busy styling for the sake of being busy. I suppose that should I ever own a 2014 Camaro I'd be more likely to overlook details such as this. I'd either be in the car driving it or away from it entirely, and not having to look at them either way. Norm |

From what little I can tell from the You Tube video, I think it looks pretty good, actually! I was really concerned over trying to improve on an already awesome design, but I think they did a good job.
BUT......until I see one in person and drive one, the jury's still out.....

Keep the bad reviews coming. Everyone stay out of the showrooms. Next thing you know there will be a couple grand rebate to those that like it.
It's a win-win. Haters get to hate, buyers get a deal. |
