So who is going to be the first to retrofit a 2011 passenger seat into a 2010? http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97470

thinking GM or fbodwhatever is ever going to do anything about this is like spitting in the ocean and expecting the tide to come in....or ralphing down popcorn and expecting to have an IQ greater than 10.
would you expect this type of corporate behavior if it was the Ford Shelby GT500 or Dodge Challenger SRT?

Passenger Seat Mod?
Been reading all these thoughts and opinions on this passenger seat height issue, and while i haven't had many complaints from my friends riding in the passenger seat, i have noted that it feels a bit low. So i looked at some options. Now i'm just a guy that builds and customizes cars for a hobby, and by no means a professional, but i have been at it for over 30 years and enjoy the challenge of making something different and cool. Well i'm sure everyone knows by now it will be a bit of a redesign of the entire seat base to do it right. And the airbag sensor some are worried about, shouldn't know the difference if your butt is 6 inches or 8 inches off the floor boards as long as the angle of the seat base is not changed. So that would mean, only, a mod that would allow an even ht adjustment (not an independant f/r system like on the power dr side).
Ok, the basic challenge to overcome...the seat tracks can't just be shimmed up, because the front of the tracks hook into the floor and bolt down in the back. Comparing the design of the passenger/driverside seat bases, you will find that the passenger side has solid legs connecting the seat base to the tracks. While the driverside uses links that allow the seat base to rise/lower in the front and rear independantly and there are three motors that make this happen. Option 1: So why not just buy a drivers side seat base assy? It comes with all the motors and tracks...but the legs are offset away from the center of the car...darn, knew that was too easy. Also, I picked up the OEM shop manual and after reviewing the wiring diagrams it is clear that the connectors are the same, but the harness for the passenger side is short some key circuits to power those three seat adjustment motors...1. Forward/Aft 2. Seat ht front 3. Seat ht rear. Ok, now what to do? Option 2: Use the LS driver seat manual seat height adjuster. It works like a ratchet and cranks the seat up or down depending on how you move it. no additional power circuits needed and it would work linear. sounds good. This would entail once again modifying the seat base to incorporate the ratchet mechanism and links that allow the seat base to rise/lower off the seat tracks. so while this sound simple up front, like option 1, still not plug and play...but definitely not impossible, just won't be cheap for whoever feels they really have to have that option. all the best to those attempting it. for me it may be a winter project. for now though just enjoying the ride. |
