Just to avoid confusion, is the one that comes with certain models (and yes, they do come with some 5th gens) a clean side separator? Or is it similar to the ones supplied by Elite and others...

The donations are well over $400. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the support. It's nice to know people are ready, willing and able to hold GM to task for stupid warranty denials.

However, there has been contact established, and while we are waiting for the response to the petition from GM, let's hold off on any more donations. Just in case we have to refund all of these, it might save some work.

Thanks!

It's a clean side separator, that drains back into the valve cover on the 1LE ... Not a catch can

Ok, and the one on the 2016... is that also a clean side separator? Or a PCV oil/air separator similar to the Elite offerings?

Not sure, but you can't base anything off of that because it is a different type engine. I can't see it being a catch can like Elite that has to be emptied by the consumer ... IMO

Signed and posted the information to those in our Camaro club who are interested. This could have ramifications for many a Camaro owner.

The LT1/LT4 engines have an oil/air separator system built internally into the valve covers. It's not an external separator, at least this is my understanding.

Hopefully this will be an education to them and a possibility to start including them in the vehicle.

Elite, if I were you I would capitalize on this new-found information that GM has and submit your patented design for a factory catch-can.

JMHO as always...
I am more concerned with the oil pump issue itself and the fact that GM is using an unrelated mod to deny a warranty claim on what is basically a new car. I wouldn't want a claim denied for the Z/28 intake I installed on mine. (One reason I went with OEM instead of CAI or Roto Fab, not necessarily performance)

When I had my 2010 V6 I was paranoid about the timing chain, now I'm paranoid about the oil pump in my LS3... Ugh.

+1 - Obviously the deeper issue and one GM doesn't seem to want to address, at least with this owner. Modern vehicles are complicated, and it's amazing that as many things work as well as they do... but when a problem arises, they seem to go into "damage control" mode. IE what is less expensive, a redesign/recall? Or... depending on the number of incidents, case by case.

Shameful.... Of course we would expect a company with an ounce of integrity to take the high road, being that a vehicle is likely the 2nd most expensive investment us humans ever make in our lives... But as said before.. today's cars are made with a shelf life.

As far as known issues, I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think the vast majority are taken care of as quietly as possible to avoid the kind of fuss we are currently raising.

JMHO

Hey guys - I've been hanging around the site for a while now and after reading the OP's story, I felt compelled to comment.

In my earlier years, I had a couple 91 Camaros (one with the 305 and one with the 350). I then went to a Lincoln LS and about a year ago bought a 2012 Cadillac CTS with the 3.6 - I was looking at Camaros at the time, but the AWD of the Cadillac swayed me. I wanted the V but didn't have 40,000+ to spend and that only comes in rear wheel anyway.

Anyway, a lot of the Cadillac guys are also running catch cans so I posted a link to this on the website I frequent. Hopefully some will sign the petition.
