The people who got the same basic car I got for 20K less are the one's who scored. But I have to ask this question...why are so many people qualifying the original posters thread by feeding the fire? He's a young guy who is being too sensitive. He'll grow out of it. But why all the drama? Are there really people out there who actually care what others think of their choice on this one?

And to set the cop car rumor straight...the best police interceptor was the 2006 Chevy Caprice with the first gen LS - 8 cyl. That car hauled ass. Nobody wanted to drive the left-over Ford Crown Vics - they were total dogs for 8 cyl's. Furthermore, most of the new Dodge Charger police units you see running around are the eco-correct 6 cyl units. All the motors listed above were not the standard issue engines available to public.
Dare I ask the obvious question?----- Where in heavens name did you see a 2006 Caprice with and LS engine?????? To the best of my knowledge that car doesn't exist. If it does, I want one of those!

My hamster is better because his wheel sits atop a sweet sweet V8! Just Kiddig! No hate to the V6 owners the 3.6 is a great engine. I had it in my cts and it was fast, but it's nothing like the awesome power of the V8. For me I have always wanted a V8. The sound is unlike anything else, and is oh so satisfying. When it comes down to it Camaro is a fabulous car in any configuration.

Has anyone seen the movie "A Knight's Tale", starred Heath Ledger back in 2001? There was a line in that movie that reminds me of this thread. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I was all set to buy a V8. Unfortunately I just could not get past that big ugly hole they call a mail slot.

Just kidding. Economics and fear of killing myself were deciding factors.

Yes it puts up similar hp a the 4rth gen v8's but it's also about 300+ lbs more even with independent rear suspension it's a whole half second slower than the 4rth Gen LS V8's and SS LT's. I've owned 2 v6 camaros and loved them but there is no replacement for displacement. It is by far the best V6 camaro ever and even better than late second gen and early 3rd gen V8 camaros but that was because of gas shortage and emmissions killed the v8 during that time.

Of course it isn't a V8, it's a V6. The point of the thread is that the V6 Camaro is still an awesome car, and definitely isn't worthy of the attempt at dissing the owner it sometimes gets. Some people just don't NEED the extra horsepower, or maybe they don't want to be in debt as long as most of us V8ers will be, or maybe they bought the car for the styling and don't feel the need to beat a Mustang off the line every time.

In summation: a Camaro in any incarnation is cool.

V-6 guys, It must bother a lot of you that you didn't get the v-8 if you feel like you have to explain your self all the time. Just tell them what I do. F off of you don't like it it's not yours.
OP: I feel your pain (being a V6 owner - I got what I could at the time).

Coolman: It's not about "explaining" things away - it's more for the v8 owners benefit. perhaps if they understand our reasoning they wont be such jerks about it. Not all v8 owners are jerky about the size of the engine, but enough are to make it a hardship. I run a Camaro/Firebird club called West Coast F-Bodies.

You would think that tons of people would love to gather up and do events that are f-body specific (I don't always get a chance to update the website I created - but we do things quite often) but quite the contrary - upon learning that the co-founders of the club have v6 cars, they often leave and never come back, probably because they don't feel that they can identify with v6 owners because v6 "muscle" cars aren't really muscle cars at all.

The "do what you want with your car" is certain a grand gesture and a good idea - but far too often us v6 owners are ridiculed and singled out not only by the auto community at large, but by our own v8 brothers and sisters who own the same cars we do. It sucks when your "family" laughs at you and thinks down of you because you got a different engine than they did - because you are simply happy with your car.

And "living with it" is what it becomes. A sort of battle - at first you silently laugh at the jabs and the treatment because you pity the people that ridicule - but over time it gets stale and the little jokes become big irritations.

It's easy to say "learn to deal" but its not easy to do. It's frustrating to wonder why people are so intolerant of something that so closely resembles their own property.

I don't have an answer as to why it happens - but unfortunately the only advice I can give the OP is: "learn to accept it as a part of owning a v6". Just have to realize that you have a "little v6" that will take out most of the v8's on the road without much effort and be happy with that nugget of knowledge.

I hope this little bit helps - in any way possible. If you need to rant about v6 ownership feel free to PM me, I'll respond as soon as I can.

edit: @Dragoneye - Imagine if you had something that you were tremendously excited about - you know of a room where tons of people are excited about something you just bought - so you go into that room to find someone to share your excitement with only to find that 98% of the room thinks that what you bought isnt really "worthy" of being called whatever it is because its not red or green or it only has 2 wheels or it floats instead of flies or insert whatever reason you want here. Us v6 owners really do "try" to leave it be and live with the haters, but often times it's hard to deal with a constant barrage of people who hate what you love so much.

You have to put the grief into perspective. "Living with" and "Dealing with" the hate and "rolling with the punches" only works so often and for so long. It's a constant battle and like coolman said it often results in the v6 owners trying to justify their cars importance in an effort to make others see why they love the car so much. Because it's hard loving something so cool only to be doing it by yourself.

The car was the Caprice 9C1. It had the original LT1, not LS and the year was 1996 (sorry, got my head all crazy there for a minute) - modified from 260 hp to 294. It was raw though and many departments further modified them into 305+ hp cars - hardly politcally correct, but it got the job done! I have seen many variations of that car and some departments have kept them on the road with updated engines and drivetrains. Production stopped mid 1996 as Chevy did away with the full-frame design, but GM continued to fill the gov't orders through 1997. That left the slowazz turd of a car; Crown Vic as the only new option. HATE that car. Anyway, the Caprice is making a comeback next year with the PPV, a Flex Fuel 6 litre V8 (yep, the old one) rated at 355 hp. But this should make this thread happy: in 2012 the police units will be available with the same V6 that everyone here is freaking out about. I guess that settles the question whether the V6 camaro engine is panzy or not. Heavy handed rooky cops will be enforcing the law with them. luckily I will still be able to outrun them in my LS3 - if I were so inclined.

Pardon the original post - 3 beers and I can't even get my decades straight.
