Thank you, that's what I was looking for, however i'm still wondering if the subframe is the same for both with the suspension components being what is different?

Thanks again.
The subframe is definitely the same just the components are different (shocks etc, possibly the a-arms and stuff but you'd really have to reference the shop manual for that). But I am sure the Subframes are definitely the same, they work to make this low cost, they definitely aren't gonna have different body stampings for V8s and V6's....

If you try and do insurance fraud you will go behind bars, not worth it for $35K USD, not worth it for anything.

I feel for you I really do but even thinking about doing this up and selling it as new makes me feel uneasy. With the amount of cars your father has owned and you have owned, I'm guessing you own a dealership of some sort. No offense but I would run a mile from your dealership if this is your ethics.

Finally, that was just an assumption to put a point across and I mean no offense or to rub salt in your wounds.

Do the right thing, sell as is or keep it for parts or do it up slowly.

What ever you do DONT do insurance fraud. YOU WILL BE SURPRISED what ONSTAR knows already!!
I'm not pointing fingers at you, just referencing your post as the last one in a line of posts because this poor guy is getting kicked while he is down repeatedly about stuff he never talked about.

1. He NEVER mentioned insurance fraud, other members here suggested it repeatedly, and he already said he would never do that. He did ask his fathers insurance if it was covered which is a legitimate question but not illegal. But he repeatedly said he would not ever consider fraud.

2. He also never said he was gonna fix the car and pass it off as new. He said he would do the major work to it (straighten the frame) and sell it as a fixable roller to give it a bit more value. As well the car because it was never totaled has a clean title (if a car is totaled by an insurance company the title is branded salvage). That doesn't mean it wasn't in an accident and he never said he would pass it that way, however Salvage on a title is like a mark of death and instantly cuts the value down immensely no matter how minor or major the damage was.

3. He has said repeatedly he knows it was stupid to have someone drive without insurance on it. But its a mistake, it happened, the car is ****ed, he has to live with a $30k mistake. It happens.

Yes the guy based on his posts has some strange shit happening to him. but it has nothing to do with this. All yee who judge, have you never made a mistake? Give the guy a break, it sounds like he loves the car as much as the rest of us, and everyone is making it worse with shit he didn't even say.

Rogue, I have a question for you.

If I have my car insured, and I'm parked behind my dad so I let him take it to the store to get some groceries and he wrecks it - do my premiums go up because my insurance pays for it even though I wasn't driving at the time?

When I read your story and you had not posted the pictures I thought well maybe it's not that bad... Now that I saw the picture it looks worse then I thought dam... sorry and I wish you the best of luck on what ever you decide to do with it.

My car cried when she saw that ...

When I read the last 4 sentences of the original post I came away believing that if some one else .........." stole " it .........and because the car had a clean title, no carfax and no police report it could be put back on the road without a buyer knowing about the damage. Happens every day.

Originally the poster also " preferred " no pictures at that time.

The latest pictures appear to have a hat placed to cover the VIN.

I would never want one of my family members to ride in that car no matter how good it " LOOKS".

IMO that car should be parted.

If that hat wasn't there only SUPERMAN would be able to read it!!. I believe that is probably strictly coincidence.

The pictures sure do look awful, but as you said....Once the bent metal is removed it wont be all that bad as it appears. You will also be REPLACING all the damaged parts...and as you said welding in original places with most likely better quality welds.

With all new components I dont see an issue with the car and would drive it myself. You sound like a guy that will assure the car is redone right and photograph the whole process and tell the future owner exactly what happened to it.

I would think your Chevy Parts dealer should be able to give you the exact part numbers of both cars by now to see what are identical and what are different.

BTW.... I too am a Police Officer (for the past 34 years).....and I appreciate a hot looking car just like the next guy. I have myself waved people over to have a conversation and to compliment them on a beautiful car. Its good PR and a great way to meet people that enjoy this hobby as we all do.

I hope your Pop is doing well. I think this rebuild project would be a healing process for both of you.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Sorry I am not trying to point fingers but when you post like below, what is anyone to think. I feel for this guy, readmy first post about this. I hope that he can get another and use this one as parts etc.

Yes, summer pir's were on it still... The reason the car is worth anything at the moment is because of what it is for 1, and for 2, with no insurance on it, it has a clean title, no salvage cert, and no carfax damage to it. Paper wise, it's still a brand new, never been smashed car, and if fixed properly, will retain that status. Which is what the body shop guy is thinking I believe.

Thanks for the input so far.. I'm actually stuck on option 1, or option 3 myself.. My thought is if I go the distance to slide a new sub frame under it, and pull it straight welding up what needs to be rewelded, I might as well finish it..

Thank you, I appreciate it!!

You all caught that hat trick huh? knowing that there are curious people out there, and my father is dealing with some legal issues over this, I didn't want to post pictures at first, and then when I posted them, I didn't want to show the nys reg sticker which shows plate number and vin..

I've met quite a few "car guy" police officers, and don't mind at all when they check out the car i'm driving. The one that got the most attention was the old 55 chevy, which i'd still love to replace!

Thanks again....

[QUOTE=Lauryn200;1276374]After looking at the photo.....it will never drive the way it did before the wreck.

I'd sell it as salvage..........unless you are serioulsy considering to make it a "Project Vehicle".

I agree but after reading his posts it seemed at least to me what this guy means is that while yes the damage is bad, the car is not a total and branded salvage. If it was then no matter how good or nice the work was done to it, the car would be worthless as salvage titles are like a mark of death. Then its totally not even worth fixing.

In short yes obviously depending on fault. If it is his fault your insurance will pay and it is considered an at fault accident and they surcharge you for it as well. SOME companies would even drop you for that, although most will give you a pass as long as your dad has his own insured vehicle.

You need to move on, That car will never be the same if you sell it for salvage and count the money you saved on parts and labor it would add up to a large sum. Your better of with a new one finance it.
