IMO The very reason the 1LE is not what was originally shown is proof that the 5Gen Z28 will be built.
How different is the 1LE production version vs the concept? What was taken off that would be used on the Z/28?

The more I drive the L/28 the more I want a GM released LS7 Z/28.

Does the heavier weight of the Camaro even matter at that point? Does it feel tossable? Does it rotate well? What about the steering? What brakes are they using?

Let's talk about Bruce Raymond's OPTIMA Challenge Camaro. It has a full Pedders Justice Suspension with a few tweaks. The brakes are CTS-V / ZL1 six pots. 19x10.5 Forgeline wheels with 305/30/19 PS 2s. Bruce runs a Maggie.

A Grand Am Champion Porsche driver ran the car for a test session a few weeks ago. This is a driver that is accustomed to race cars on slicks. His initial impression was shock and awe. Shocked that it didn't feel or drive like it weighed two tons and awed at the power.

Switch to the L/28. We don't have a blower up front but we do have the dry sump tank.Suspension is close to the same as Bruce's car. We have ZL1 305/35/20s all around. Brakes are Brembo GTs. The L/28 is not as smooth. Smooth may not be the right word. The real difference is in the wheel and tre sizes. I would like to bring the car down a full inch by switching to the 19s. That would allow the driver to put down power more aggressively, if that is possible with Danny driving. Lowering the CG an inch is HUGE. The NA power combined with that change would take the L/28 to a different level.

Both cars did not start out to be maximum handling cars. The 35 pound sunroof puts weight in the worst possible location. A Z/28 should not be sold with a sunroof.

All of this is relative. At our last testing session we passed everything on track and some of them twice. We have finishes second to a modified ZR1 and beat a $450,000 Porsche. We consistently run with or beat cars that are a 1,000 pounds or more lighter. We usually leave the track or event disappointing because we know we can tweak this or that and get faster. The available tweak list is getting very short.

What we have learned is that a 5th Gen setup up right can run with most anything on the road. How does that translate to a Z/28?

All I want from the 1E is the gear box. Bolt in the ZL1 driveshaft, diff, halfshafts and hubs. The front brakes should be six pots with the two piece rotors, the suspension should be a Pedders kit, just like Bruce Raymond's or the L/28. Wheels are 19x10.5 with Bridgestone RE-11 305/30/19/XL rubber. Get some air to the front brakes and this is a take no prisoners Z/28 with all the creature comforts found in any 5th Gen.

The lower ride height will create problems for crash testing. I would ask that GM use the least expensive wheel and tire combination possible to keep the MSRP down. Our suspension would be perfect, but if they cannot get it installed at the factory use the cheapest available components to keep the MSRP down. We know how to fix that

Where would this car slot in price? About the same as a ZL1. Which would be more fun to drive -- Z/28. Which would be faster on a road course -- Z/28. Which would be faster on the autocross -- Z/28. We had a couple of ZL1s at the AC. The fastest ZL1 time came when we were running after the course had closed. With a couple of key cones down it ran a high 32 seconds. With our best driver (Danny Popp) behind the wheel with all the cones in place it was a 34 second car. Very fast. Very easy to drive. Absolutely AWESOME. Our best time in the L/28 was a 30 flat. Danny sucked in a couple of cones on that run. We use light weight cones to keep the show car in the show car The best L/28 run with every cone in place 32.0 Bruce Raymond's Camaro was 32.2.

Switch the L/28 to 19s and Danny is running low 29s or high 28s. Oops there I go again with the tweaking

Bottom Line: If GM would build the Z/28 to my specs (how is that for arrogant) owners would never stop raving about the best Camaro to ever hit the streets.

Now with a little cam, some head work and a tune

Sounds like you have a solid build if GM wants to make it happen.

I was reviewing some older replys and came across this:

Yes-- we could have called it something else -- on the other hand, Camaro is a hallowed brand and it's appropriate to celebrate monikers from the past.

If this doesn't "appropriately" tell us that "something else" a Z28 is on the way...

That or they are going to use other order codes instead of Z/28.

It could end up being a blessing that this section is a tiny bit harder to find.
