AEM AFR Install

AEM AFR gauge came in from DynoSteve! I also purchased the no-weld clamp.

Contents:

Also, I'm finally going to use my SLP Gauge pod I've had for almost 4 years! Just waiting for a need:

Going to start pulling the cluster trim and upper cover off of the steering assembly -- get this mounted and ready to go...

Updated my HID lamps with Diode Dynamics D1S 6000k:

https://www.diodedynamics.com/replac...o-rs-pair.html

Now, all my front bulbs are 6000k.

Got a License Plate lamp out so that will the next bulb upgrade.

Tail lamps, trunk, interior are already updated...

Ok, moving on with the AEM AFR gauge, started prepping the SLP Gauge POD, it needed work as it is not designed for this gauge. Did a bit of 'clearance' work, and finally got the gauge to fit:

I also drilled and created counter sinks for the bolts to rest just even with the surface:

Next will be dressing and drilling holes in the steering column cover...

Continued on the Gauge Pod. I added Amber LEDs to let me know the intercooler pumps are running -- just as a safety thing. I have LEDs for Driver's and Passenger's side pumps:

Adjusted so I can see them:

At the same time, I'm building up the wiring harness for the LEDs as well as the power for the gauge. I'm going to utilize my body ground (near the engine ground) and my external fuse block so I can put in a 5 amp fuse and just run the wires.

Lots of 'fun' making harnesses ;o)

AEM AFR Install (cont.)

Today, I started running the wire harnesses to the steering column. I decided to run the wires though the cabin air filter area as it had a body plug that was perfect for running wiring inside the cabin. After taking off the Cabin air cover and passengers side covers, I located the plug, popped it out, and ran the wires:

Here, I routed the sensor wiring:

I'm putting the first sensor in bank 2 as its easier to run the wiring inside. Next I routed the wiring inside:

Then up to the steering column, making sure it had clearance and slack as needed:

Hooked up the wiring harness for the OBD II pass-through -- it works ;o). The Aeroforce connector hooked right up and read fine:

Next, I’ll hookup the power for the gauge, then wireup the gauges and LED lights for the intercooler pumps...

I have used those sensor bung clamps on people's cars before. They tend to suck in a lot of air (venturi effect) and throw off the afr big-time. A pin hole leak is all it takes.I would get a weld in bung if I were you. They are dirt cheap. Just sharing my experience with them

I have the weld in. I’ll take it and get it welded then after I get the wiring run. I’m a welder (Hobart and Miller trained) but don’t have one now.

Thanks! I don’t want to have trouble ;o)

My Daily Tires came in (yes, Toyo R888Rs) and I've prepped the wheels (cleaned and taped). I'll be taking those Thursday to get them mounted. I'll then take off the track setup and put my daily's on. I'll use these for my trips (like CamaroFest) and outings. Should help keep the track set good for a few outings.

I also took Mark's advices (ABADZL1) and picked up a stainless bung from Summit (that is a DANGEROUS place for me ;o). I'll get that welded in and finished up the install.

Just taking my time right now, not rushing to get things done.

BTW I'll have 4 285/35/ZR20s that have out edge wear but lots of meat left. May use those for a 'square setup' or have to get ride of them (I already have 3 sets of wheels + 2 ZL1 rears with drags).

Got the Toyo's mounted on my 'daily' wheels:

Also, my step drill bit came in so I'll move on with the AEM gauge pod...

Should have this wrapped up by the weekend!

More setup for the AEM gauge. Finally bolted up the pod and setup the LED's to be easily seen while driving (these just let me know 'power' is going to the intercooler pumps):

Now, installed on the column:

Next, I'll hookup the power to the AEM, set it to Lambda, then get the bung welded in -- after that, I'll be able to install the sensor!

Interior is put back together, gauge is set for Lambda, now just need to get the bung welded in and install the sensor! I'll have that done tomorrow and then will put on my daily wheels -- test drive!

Here is the gauge hooked up -- yes you'll note it id'd the senor is not reading -- which is the default when not hooked up or started...

That is neat, but I’m not too worried about it being bright — yet ;o)

Looks good! I ordered the same wideband and an Aeroforce Interceptor, just waiting for the Ortiz dual pod to install them. Are the OBD2 connections in the way at all?
