I did say the track prep normally is pretty good. Then others chimed in that have raced there as well and voiced there opinion that it wasnt so good. Then I began comparing it to Rt66 in Joliet which is super sticky and when comparing 66 to GLD, it makes GLD inferior

Also not quite 10% more than the GT500's hp, its more like 5.5% ( and if you did mean 201o, then its a little more than 7%) than the 2012 GT500 which was rated at 550 HP and was the benchmark that the ZL1 was going to be better than. |

The "business case" for the ZL1 was completed in 2010...as stated, about 18 months after Gen-5 Camaro production commenced...and was announced in early-'11, (when GT500 announced IT's SURPRIZE for MY '13!). Right? Production early-'12, as a MY 2012. Right? Still with us?
You obviously put the wrong em-PHAS-is on the wrong syl-AB-les... But thanks for playing...not everyone goes home with a door prize...but since you're a fairly bright boy, under intense illumination, we'll send you home with this: Last edited by LOWDOWN; 08-17-2014 at 09:12 PM. |

MotorTrend ZL1 vs Hellcat Review
Great photos! Pretty much what you would expect. Hellcat in a straight-line, ZL1 everywhere else. "While the Camaro behaves like a sports car, the Challenger pretends to be nothing else than a straight-line dragster, and when you toss a corner its way it can be a handful."A little disappointed they brought a manual ZL1 vs the Autocat. Still no times for the Mancat. 0-60: ZL1 3.9; Autocat 3.7 1/4 Mile: ZL1 12.2 sec @ 116.6 mph; Autocat 11.7 sec @ 125.4 mph Braking 60-0 MPH: ZL1 100 ft; Autocat 109 ft Lateral Acceleration: ZL1 0.99 g (avg); Autocat 0.94 g (avg) MT Fig 8: ZL1 24.0 sec @ 0.85 g (avg); Autocat 24.7 sec @ 0.85 g (avg) Price as Tested: ZL1 $59,045; Autocat $64,670

How is a 580-hp car only achieving 116-mph something doesn't add up.

You can't run the same g-force when the two times are that far apart. MT "typo". If the Hellcat runs 24.7 (reported twice), then its average should read 0.80g. |

Otherwise, how would a 662 hp GT500 run mid-120s, and a 707 Hellcat runs the SAME sort of mph? As for the BOSS, maybe it had a "special Track Key". Or a side trip through AEW. For an 8.15 lb/hp car (ZL1 - 7.12, GT500 - 5.82, Hellcat - 6.30), it ran pretty strong times. Underrated?? Or massaged?? |

That's one of the reasons I stopped reading MT. One of the big recurring trends I have noticed is stuff like Joe pointed out.

And for all those curious about the dyno numbers. Pretty much an as! kicking. Note it's an auto Hellcat, manual numbers should be higher.

From the MT article
"the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat is really quite the complete package. It sports one of the best interiors in the segment with high-quality materials, a great infotainment system, an even better audio system, room for five, and a stunningly low starting price of just $60,995, with an as-tested price of $64,570. The Camaro ZL1 feels somewhat less special than the Challenger inside. Sure, it's got Alcantara just about everywhere, and snug bucket seats, but you can tell Chevy's focus was elsewhere. The Challenger gets all the little details that make a musclecar special right (like the Dodge Brothers logo hidden in the center console), whereas the Camaro doesn't really have a cohesive interior design, with things such as its navigation system tacked on like an afterthought." |
