again the standard features are what cause this price difference. a base 2SS and a GT premium with brembos comes in with in $500. and you still get IRS on the camaro. you had an increase of new tech in the mustang (mainly the engine) and that price increase paid for all the other added features. but still you do not have IRS.
Yup. But I think you're arguing the wrong side. All of what you said above is why the SS was worth premium vs. the '10 GT. But then you argue for a price premium for the Z28, when it only has 1 of those advantages over the GT500. And the GT500 already has a cushion built into it's price.

Middle class starts at around $80k/year.

Why wouldn't it? It's basically the same price as the Mustang. They are both selling well.

Production is kept low on the GT500 and it's still not selling.

we do not know exactly what the Z28 will offer. and can not argue a huge price difference. that's why I'm saying 50150 vs the gt500 49400. it's not that big of a difference. almost worth the irs. both cars will have a cushion. . .and that's where people should be trying to buy their car at. not at msrp.

if middle class starts at 80 then I have to laugh. because no matter how you look at it myself and my co-workers live like we are middle class but make less then 60k a year. guess that's what happens when you spend so much time deployed.

the gt500 isn't selling well? i believe that over half the production 2011's are sold before it's even off the line. I remember reading that either on autoblog or another car site. so. . .I would consider that to be selling well for a low volume car.

if there is a premium it won't be much and it will be worth it compared to the competition. I have yet to argue that I wouldn't like to see it at 45k. I have argued that if performance suffers due to it that it won't be worth it. I would not want to pay for it unless the mod potential out did the gt500. but as been stated if the lsa is used it's already more limited then the gt500. either way it will be close in price. I believe that to the core. it will be 50k + or - 2%. just looking at history of the camaro and even this current generation.

.
Priced in-line with the GT500 sounds about right. The CTS-V coupe starts at $62k, so you can give up some of the creature comforts there, but only so much. If the Z28 is in mid $40's, it is because power or handling was traded off for price, so many would not want it.

Well when you get to the Z28 range it'll open up your choices more. Z28 or Corvette?

Managing expectations. How many 2010's sold below MSRP? And Ford reduced production for MY 2011.

Edit - 5,500 units/year is not what I call doing well.

IT's called a low volume car for a reason. and I bet they made profit off them even with ONLY selling 5500 units a year.

keeping demand up is a way to keep the cars value higher. look at harely davidson. generally they produce less bikes then the public wants. they've artificially kept demand high for years. which keeps the bikes outragous in price and keeps the resale value high also.

you're seeing total sold as a bad number. I'm seeing it as a move to keep demand higher. you keep enough produced to keep a steady state of customers even at 50k per car. then you're keeping a steady state of sales.

All this guy wants to do is argue for paying more for this damn car. Let him be proud if he can fact can pay more for a Z-28 then what it should cost or a GT500 cost. But like he said we dont know what this car will be, but I there has been a stron indicator is that its going to be the LS3 with a SC on it.

In all reality the Z will not blow jthe GT500 out of the water, therefor there is no way GM could charge anymore than probably 1-3 grand more than the GT500. Also the Gt500 is overprices because others have said Ford could get it and there wasnt any competition. In all reality GM will want to undercut ford and probably charge 46k. Think about once you get rid of the hard core people, how are you going to market people to buy a car that cost say 4-5 grand more than the competition but yet only has say 20more hp or something.

if you haven't noticed i like to argue. . .lol. so first

I'm not saying they won't price it under the gt500 like that. but the pessimistic side of me fully expects to have to pay 50k. ford wouldn't sell it if it didn't make some kinda of money. in other words the car would have been discontinued if it was that poor of a seller.

second. . .do you really think the lsa is an ls3 with a supercharger? just because they share the same displacement doesn't make them the same motor with an added charger. . .just saying this because this is going around the internet like wild fire. it's kinda annoying when you get on youtube and start reading what some people are saying.

How is unfulfilled demand good for either car buyers or Ford/GM?

Edit - And the profit on the GT500 is peanuts compared to what they make on regular Mustangs.

Ask Harley-Davidson. I'm sure they can and will explain it to you.
