Of course, this creates a Catch 22 - upgrade the lifters and void the warranty because you went into the engine, or have weak lifters.

No, the lifters would have been covered. In fact, it's a TSB and known issue. But my warranty was gone long ago.

I'm upgrading the lifters, springs, rods, oil pump, tensioner, and the rest.

I have been watching and reading this thread since it was posted! there is Very good information here unfortunately due to the catastrophic failure of engine components..

I am sorry to see sort of thing happen however it happened and will continue to happen unfortunately

I learned long time ago that any and all performance upgrades typically have a tail light warranty at the 1st corner that is taken to include any factory / mfg warranty going out the window... shit happens .. but damn this is painful to see the carnage on this crash n burn, I know I am learning thru the expense and experience if others thru this forum and there is always something things to be learned in these cases..

I like the list of internal 6.2 engine updates that is being compiled
and ultimately recommended practice in doing performance upgrades for one to think about in adding to the plan in the new hardware when doing this sort of performance upgrades, not that catastrophic failures like this wont happen but it would help reduce chances of destruction of a great engine

I would love the list of Part #'s for the GM parts and the Aftermarket parts
listed, obviously when choosing a Cam kit just be sure the MFG makes a 3 bolt Kit
to include the rest of the Valve train lifter's rods springs etc..

1: Cam (3 bolt) <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Matched Valve Train Components
2: cam gear (3 bolt) <<<<<< does GM make a 3 bolt gear ? or are there another MFG's??
3: new tensioner (ls2 tensioner) <<<<<< GM Part #
4: Timing Chain (C5-R) <<<<<<<< GM Part #
5: Crank Bolt <<<<<<<< GM Part #
6: Pushrods <<<<< Matched with Valve Train Components
7: new Oil Pump (High volume) Melling Part Number
8: upgrade Rocker Arm's (Trunion Upgrade) <<<<< Part #
9: Valve Spring Kit <<<<< Matched with Valve Train Components
10: Lifters <<<<< Matched with Valve Train Components

add to this list as needed..

Good luck with moving forward to you're new power plant!

-Roger

To do a cam right you need to upgrade all this parts.

1: Cam 3 bolt
2: cam gear (the right 3 bolt)
3: new tensioner (ls2 tensioner)
4: new Timing Chain (C5-R)
5: new Crank Bolt
6: new Pushrods
7: new Oil Pump (High volume)
8: upgrade Rocker Arm's (Trunion Upgrade)
9: Valve Spring Kit (to mach the cam)

This does not include the GM Gasket Kit needed and oil and filter, Now that you have pushed you stock bottom end close to its limit the next upgrade is to go forged, look at this pic.
Exactly! Stock is for stock. Costs more initially but saves the hearbreak of the carnage we've seen in this post. Hopefully!

Pretty ironic to die blocks from where it was born.

Luckily, Kelly & Veteran 1 saved me by getting my car back home on his trailer.

Where it goes from here....I'm not sure...GM will try and blame the cam/tune, but the car has run flawlessly for over a year...some pretty serious carnage for an 8900 mile LS3.

Some pics of the damage, and it's place of death and it's memorial.
That's awful. You could upgrade to an LS9 if GM won't budge.

Understood, but for us droolingly envious under-500-HP drivers on the site who still have a warranty, there's the conundrum - fix a weak part but void your warranty doing so?

What would you guys do if you still had a warranty? What if you might be thinking of adding bolt-ons and maybe a tune but didn't think you'd hit supercharger-level power? This forum - so informative and so frustrating at the same time.

Well, when stuff breaks, it's just a good reason to make it bigger and faster.
