It seems there's that stopper on the tensioner that stops it from going too far to the right. It's amazing you could get them that close. Today I had to go for a cruise so I left the idler pulley where it was about 3 inches from the tensioner, I noticed that the car would surge will in mid gear just cruising. Is this an effect of where the idler pulley was? Before I loosened it yesterday the car ran perfectly and now this? I'm so frustrated with this after reading how easy is should be and what a tough time I'm having with it. You guys have been so much more helpful than the sponsor that sold me the tensioner, t seems like I barely get 5 word sentences from him, and I thought he'd have the fix for this but you guys have spent more time trying to help me. I just want to know is the bogging/surging related to the pulley now? I can't understand it, as it ran perfect a day ago...I just couldn't leave well enough alone. Thats again for the video PQ and I will try your method tomorrow and let you know how it comes out...I wish you were close to I'd have a second set of hands and your mind to help me!
I'd certainly help if I could.

If you are all the way to the stopper to max on the tension release then your belt is too small. And you'll never get them together.

As long as you have power steering, battery is charging normally, and the car is staying at normal operating temps then you are perfectly fine to drive it. The blower pulley is meaningless when not under boost anyway. If the belt slips too badly then you'll just have less boost. You're fine to drive it in the meantime. I can't see that bogging and surging would have to do with your belt at all.

Do you have an O'Rielly auto parts there?

I'm sure there's an O'Rielly around, but I drove it yesterday and it ran fine, then all of a sudden while cruising today it would surge every now & then.
Now disrespect to Ted but I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff and it's his part and I try to be as descriptive as possible but very frustrating when I get 5 word answer.

Well I was gonna have you take your belt in to O'Rielly and compare it to a Gates K060950 belt. I'm guessing yours is WAY shorter.

Sorry if I can't remember but where did you get your current belt?

ok sorry for the late pic as my photobucket acc was stuck, here's the pic of the bolt we used no need to pry against the throttle body.

To only pry on the idler is crazy. It's a lot of pressure on the pry points for nothing.
I disagree. The question is belt wrap not tension. It obvious that an automatic tensioner would even out the tension on both sides of the pulley. It's an automatic TENSIONER.

Let's get back to helping the OP with his issue.

Yep, I have the super tensioner from Ted and running a 2.9, 6 rib setup with no issues. About 11 lbs of boost which is about right.

I have the 3.8 on my Maggie.
Strange thing, after I couldn't get the idler back closer to tensioner I rann the car to check it, rode fine. Yesterday I had a cruise and was noticing that during cruise it would surge for a second or two. Can this be related? I didn't touch anything but the pulley on Saturday and I drove for well over an hour on Saturday and it was fine....Now what?

I think you have issues. That pulley is to small not to slip on a 6 rib setup. I made 10.5 psi on a 3.4 6 rib pulley. You should be at like 15 with that little guy. Anything lower than a 3.4 6 rib is going to experience some degree of slippage.

I don't think the surge is related. Seems like most surging is an airflow issue.

In reference to Ted's responses. It's not just you. It's not that he doesn't give a f#*k. You're not the only member who's mentioned this and I've talked to him about it. Shit, with Ted's answers my dad thought Ted was mad at him. I get answers like that. Ted get hundreds of emails a day. He is involved in every build at the shop. All while talking and helping people on the phone. He needs to be short and to the point with emails otherwise he'd answer 20 a day. I know over the wknd communication is tough but you can always call Monday am. Sorry for all your troubles. They will get worked out.

And no disrespect to Ted, I always support his business and I understand he gets 100s of emails a day probably about mundane stuff too. I know a lot of you guys know what the hell you're doing, especially you SS, but there's a small percentage like me who wants to learn the whys & hows, I hate bothering people about silly things, but it's silly to them but very important to me. I just feel so isolated out here on the West Coast as opposed to NJ, and if I was back there Ted would've done this build from start to finish. I meant no disrespect to Ted, and have the highest respect for him out of any builder here, that's why I went right to him with my questions. I feel like such a dope when all you guys tell me how easy it is to move the pullley and I can't get it to budge. Not like I'm a 98lb weakling either! I just can't understand how I drove it Saturday with the pulley a little further away, then sunday came and I start to experience issues with surging. You mention the surging issue could be an airflow issue, any idea of where I can start to look for this airflow issue?
Thanks for your time SS!
