This is a well known tactic. After all the less you say the less there is to be used against you so people would sit back and be active but really only join in to gang up on someone they already know is a townie or to defend mafia members. This is why most people tend to go after the ones that don't really add to conversations now so the best way around that is to immediately draw attention to yourself and play it off as a joke.

It's not a joke.. I'm basically fighting to stay alive right now. I don't know who's in the mafia. I really don't. But there's some people that I'm very suspicious of.
