The more young Camaro owners the better in my opinion, It insures the longevity of the car. Long live the Camaro! I have owned 3 camaros, my 2010, I had to wait a long time, and work very hard to get, and appreciate it that much more because of it.

I also think what a lot of people are hating on is that a younger person has a more expensive car than they do and they've worked their whole lives while a 16-17 year old has barely lived life vs. a 40 year old.

Playing devil's advocate, MOST younger kids that do buy their own cars have some assistance and are not doing it on their own steam. I.E. You still live at home with your parents (When you own your own home your mortage is a large chunk of change) However, if your only financial responsibility is say, your car and cell phone bill, yes, you can afford one.

In chicago, a 16 or 17 year old is not making enough cash to afford a $60,000 car, truth be told. There is help coming from somewhere, and while the young car owner may not think it or agree with it, but, not paying rent/mortgage allows you to pay for your 700-800 dollar car payment. Also, under 18 and you cannot buy a car here, so, again, your parents are helping if they are cosigning it and registering it under their name, same goes with the insurance.

No matter, I've known a few kids that were cocky and had a chip on their shoulder, but, it really depends on the person, not the age of the person.

Hell, when I was 15, I lived at home and had a 2002 M3. Granted, I was kicking out over 70 hours a week working on a hospital racking in over $1,500 a week, maintaining my grades and athletics at the same time. I also gave my parents $800 a month to help with bills and paid for my own insurance, phone, internet, etc.

It's possible, but, far from the norm.
This is more what I was driving at (No pun intended). Far be it from me to say that elders do not deserve respect as they have seen more and can navigate you around pitfalls you did not know even existed, most of us would not be where we are now if it wasn't for a guiding hand.

But guidance and handouts are two different things. It's fairly offensive to say to someone who has worked hard to obtain what they wanted "Well you must have gotten help from mom/pop". It's not impossible to establish yourself early, in fact far from it, it just takes a good deal of planning, hard work and patience. Your priorities have to be in place to manage such things and you will be working many hours, there is no easy way to do it.

Also, as far as I remember, most institutions will not issue you lines of credit until you're 18. They would also want proof of income of I'm assuming three to five years for a ZL1 and you would have to be grossing enough monthly to qualify for the loan on it's own merit. Even then without a history I could only see you plausibly qualifying for a 2LS at best. I can't see you owning a ZL1 in your name only unless you bought it cash, which is uncommon but possible. That's a lot of money to put into a basically null return however, financed actually would have served you better for the credit history at that age. No offense intended, I'm actually pretty curious.

Well this was a pretty interesting read...several topics covered in one thread...

To the OP, it can be difficult to break into these small groups, but you are missing the obvious connection...your car. Go up to the group that is sitting by the car and start looking over the car, see what they have done to make it theirs. then ask, "Who's car is this?" Pay them an honest compliment. ASK them about their car, what they like, what they LOVE. Bring up what you like as well. Soon enough, they'll be asking you questions about your ride. Being a car guy (or girl for that matter, no need to start another topic...) is multi-generational. it IS your common link.

As for all this too young to own this or that...well, for me; I owned a POS in college...all my friends had POS cars in college. With that reference, it would be difficult to see someone under 20 driving a ZL1 and not think it would have been nice when I was 20...or now for that matter. But now my priorities are different. I own (the bank does anyway) an SS, would love to have bought a ZL1, but I'd rather work on paying off my mortgage, invest in 401k, or purchase Steve Miller Band tickets...see I did read it all....

Now, lets quick bitching and go for a drive...

42 yes old here, grew up driving muscle cars and didn't get any indication from dealer that I am too old for new camaro I have a 67 as big block in basement now. So laugh at me if you will but but be careful this old buzzard can still drive the wheels off this thing. I'll never outgrow fast cars and got a feeling most of you guys will say same thing one day. I was 18 once too

OP, just watch convos, names, topics, etc, that will be a good clue to age without even leaving that house. The Az clubs will not be the fast and furious atmosphere you are thinkin of. I have noticed a huge disparity in claiming members in the hundreds/thousands(people that just signed up website wise) to those that actually are the club and do the functions, christmas partys, ladies nights, etc. those numbers are very small. Clubs should be there for the spirit of the car, and car functions, I hate the politics of "who started the club", or "whos been a member the longest" no buddy cares people. Just enjoy your cars and others at the function.
Gertrude,Dolores,Harold,Ethel(clues for OP)...were talkin to you, lmao

There is going to be a huge age range for ownership.... It's a 43K car non-ZL1 thats hardly unattainable. I would expect a lot of kids to be able to afford one. Now a ZL1 is one awesome waste of almost 60k on a domestic car that I would be surprised if mommy and daddy didn't purchase ...

You are full of shit, there's no way you mowed lawns or baby sat enough to save for a $60k car. Mommy and daddy definitely had a hand in your car sorry 😉

Well I purchased my car when I was 20 owned it for more than 3 years now and I was actually on the market for other v6's around the same specs and my eyes werent set on the ss ( import guy at heart).

Well it's been a stereotype that muscle cars or american sports cars are mainly owned by older people maybe thats why and so I havent met anyone that's within a 5 year age gap from mine.

yeah i respect all the other 20-30 year old(im 23) saying they earned their cars and believe it but at 16 there is no way in hell you did this yourself without help i believe he is just trolling. no car dealer is gonna take a 16 year old seriously inquiring for a zl1. and how much is insurance for a 16 year old for a 60,000 car seriously lol. i cant imagine how much a month it would cost for a 16 year old to own.
