Well that doesn't look so good. That piston to me is trashed IMHO.

If I we're you I would start thinking about pulling the motor. I'd start by disconnecting the Trans since you have that much room now. I have a plate that I had borrowed PQ and it uses your valley cover bolts to hoist it out. You can borrow it just send me your address by pm no charge just send it back. Sorry to hear this man.

Ouch man! That piston is gone. Id replace all 8 just be safe. The tiniest knick could cause a hot spot on the piston and could lead to detonation. I dont like the way that passenger side head looks. Looks like it took a good beating right there by the plug.

As unfortunate as this all is, I have to remember to stay positive (even tho this sucks beyond all measure). I will have to say that this little of a timing screw up has opened the door to understanding my LS3 engine. Definitely not the best way of going about it but I have learned more about my engine in the last week than my entire life. At this moment I have to come up with some kind of road map and a plan to get her back up and running. The other good thing about all this is the amount of knowledge and experience from my shop and from everyone here on Camaro5. As always I will keep this thread updated. Thanks for everyone's input and keep it coming, hopefully anyone reading this thread can learn something from it.

Did you confirm that the cam was out of time with the crank?

Not confirmed yet until I take the timing cover off and have a look, but I am 90% sure thats what it is. Thats the next project, remove water pump, removing balancer, remove timing cover and oil pump and take a look.

Right, if you take the cover off and those timing marks are lined up, then the cam was ground wrong lol

Most likely, but not the only cause. Albeit slight, could have the incorrect length pushrods installed.

Wow that didn't even sound right from the beginning man, then it got worse!

Hey I'll be having some forged Manley 4.065 pistons with -4cc valve reliefs for a 4.0 stroke cheap on a few days if your interested.
