In the defense of the Feline du Purgatory:

Anyone who has beaten on the front V8, RWD cars made this century has had to deal with traction. I tend to downplay the 0-60mph times. It is VERY hard to get any of them into the sub-4.0 second area repeatably on all surfaces. First gear seldom hooks up well, and the 500+ HP cars struggle getting second to dead hook. Sometimes even 3rd can be a challenge.

I think Dodge was worried by certain published numbers in the mid-3's in certain tests.

But 0-60mph is nothing but traction with these kinds of RWD cars. A 13 second car set up right will ass-rape cars that are far more powerful that can't hook up.

The real proof is the high 2 second 0-60mph times that powerful AWD cars will put down. They might not even have as much HP/weight, but they launch really hard on most surfaces.

I'm pretty sure even a well driven HellKitty on DR's on a slimy track or at a stoplight is not going to catch wifey's 7100lb 540RWHP 4x4 (High 1.5's, low 1.6's, 12.50@107). And it wears truck tires that are E-Rated and good in the snow. It launches hard even on hardpack dirt or wet pavement.

The PerditionPuzzy will torch the tow-truck after 60mph with nearly double the power to weight ratio, but if the stoplight shootout only goes up to 50mph, it doesn't stand much of a chance of being within a carlength.

It's trap speeds of unmodified cars that truly lets you know the potential of beasts such as the HadesTabbycat.

Now, that being said, the GT500 is trapping faster than even the "NHRA Certified" street tire MPH. Set up right for the launch with equal traction, it's going to get the Win slip.

Here's a good read. Posted from another HC thread in this forum.
(Plus don't refer to me as a troll. I have a bunch of posts and don't love just one brand of car. I LOVE all the muscle cars.)

Here's the part you've been waiting for. Our best run in the Hellcat resulted in 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds before whacking the quarter mile upside the head in 11.7 seconds at 125.4 mph. So many things to note here. First of all, as far as direct competition still on sale, the Hellcat is quicker than the Camaro ZL1. The supercharged Chevy takes 3.8 seconds to hit 60 mph and requires 12.2 seconds to run the corner, trapping out at 116.6 mph. So, that's a win. What about competition you can't buy new anymore, like -- for instance -- the recently discontinued 662-hp Shelby GT500? The lighter Snake needed only 3.5 seconds for its 60-mph blast and 11.6 seconds to go down the quarter mile with a trap speed of 125.7 mph. Slight advantage: Ford. That said, it's gone, so in terms of new-car sales, the Snake don't matter. What about the Viper? In the TA, we saw 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and a quarter-mile spanking of 11.3 seconds with an astonishing trap speed of 129.3 mph. Of course, the Hellcat weighs 1000 pounds more than its big (but smaller) brother.

Those numbers are better, but I still expected more from the hellcat. I hope some people actually hit low 11s in the near future. Otherwise the bar really isn't that much higher for the 6th gen camaro.

That's a nice article. They make some good comparisons there. I wonder if it'll be possible to put some wider rear tires on it (wether its on different rims or the same rims) without clearance issues.

Don't pay attention to the brand loyalists. You have the right attitude.

I can't wait to see what GM does next.

I believe you can fit Nitto 555R 305x35x20, drag radials on the stock rim.
I don't fall in line in brand loyalists. I love all muscle cars, and just cars in general. I am sure GM will step up to the plate, as will Ford. I do really like that Z28. A LOT. What a track car that machine is.
Good for us, the buyers!

So the kitty kat ran 3.7 0-60 and 11.7 1/4. The ZL1 ran 3.8 and 11.936 1/4. For 127 hp more but it can't turn why would you want to buy it? The ZL1 is so much better of a car. Yes I am a brand loyalist. There is a reason for that. Better quality, safer, and faster! I can't wait to see the ZL1, Z28, and 1LE all take the puddy tat to the wood shed.

Can those tires be used on the street? And yes, good for us the buyers and true car lovers.

I'm still amazed to see how much of a fight some people are putting up in admitting Dodge hit a home run with this car. They probably feel a little insecure about having bought a muscle car that one year later is out muscled.

The kitty kat does one thing, maybe. Where are the hell kitty's track times? Where are its top end times? The ZL1 still reigns as the top overall muscle car. Dodge has a long way to go.

Exactly. I don't know how they are getting something that weighs over 4000lbs with 700hp and a 275 rear tire to 0-60 that quick. Doesn't seem possible with a RWD platform and those skinny little back tires. Unless you are talking slicks on a really sticky track.

Just curious, is the 11.936 ZL1 1/4 time from Motor Trend? I can't seem to find the source in their review sections. Motor Trend claims the ZL1 is a 12.2 1/4 mile car. Could that be a typo in the Motor Trend Hellcat review?

It is all based on your perspective. Ford guys will say GT00, Mopar will say hellcat and GM will say ZL1. For me last round ZL1 won. Hellcat is just coming out with the svt right behind it and GM is coming late with 6th gen. Currently Dodge has lead with Hellcat but I really do not expect GM to match it this next round. I am betting it will be a Ford and Dodge fight.
