I wasn't going to add to the thread, but something said in the later paragraphs hit home with me. I love v8 engines, especially performance v8 engines. Ever since I was about 3 or 4 years old (Chevy performance runs very deep in my family) I've loved the SS cars and cars in general. I especially loved the v8s, Chevelles, Camaros, and the large cars with v8s. Owning a Camaro v8 was a no brainer for me. It represented a special time where I had an opportunity to own a Camaro, and I took full advantage of those opportunities. I never had any disrespect for v6 owners (I've owned a v6 Chevy), but a performance v8 car has special meaning to me, and its the type of car that I've always desired.

I agree! People have their beliefs and you can't tell 'em different but I think a lot of people could handle things differently. We don't have to have an "us vs them" mentality about V6's and V8's. I think it's just better to agree to disagree instead of trying to convince somebody about something they don't believe in. As for me personally, I COMPLETELY understand the appeal of a V8. That's why my Dart has a 340 with a big lumpy cam. Nothing on this earth sounds as mean as a built V8 with open pipes screaming at 6,500 RPM. At the time I got my Camaro, it just made more sense for me to get the V6 and spend few grand V8 swapping my Dart. Barely 19 years old, student, etc. meant I couldn't stretch it and get the SS at that time. I cosmetically maintain my boss's 2015 L99 2SS, and one of my friends has a 2010 LS3 2SS that I've gotten to romp on a few times, so I'm familiar with the SS. There's nothing I don't really like about them, same goes for the V6. My V6 with a 6 speed, MRT exhaust, and throttle controller is, to me, just as fun to cruise around town in as my boss's stock L99 2SS. Although I really do enjoy the feeling of just being in an SS. It looks more aggressive, and as the pedal gets pushed down farther it just goes goes goes. They're great. A lot of people say they're "overkill" but they're really not, IMO. I mean, they get decent fuel economy, they're reliable and well built, stop great, handle great, scoot down the road or track great. They're just all around quicker than a V6 and have way more performance potential. All that torque feels nice! One of these days I plan on getting a 1LE and camming it.. ![]() One of my favorite things about the Camaro is that there are so many different types. Convertibles, track focused cars, supercharged beasts, and even those long distance V6 gas sippers, there's something for everybody! I think your post was very insightful and well thought out. Thanks for sharing. |

V6/V8
I have always had a summer car, (An Extra Car). I'm lucky enough to own a 1LE that I don't have to daily drive. I driveit on weekends or to work 2-3 times a week if the weather is nice. I don't have an US/VS them deal going. A V6 just wasn't an option for me. I wave at everybody in a Camaro and I can't imagine being rude to someone because of their engine.
My last extra vehicle was a mildly modified 02 GMC Sierra short box. I drove only in the summer and never in the rain. I was bored with it after 12 years and was looking at Camaros. I found my 1LE at a local dealer. I was only slightly familiar with the 1LE package and liked the way it drove. I traded my GMC for the Camaro and because it was in such great condition only paid $28,000.00 out the door for a 1LE w/ Recaros 2SS/RS. My old truck was put on the showroom floor. I will never drive my 1LE to the limits it was made for. I just like it, I don't need it. Everyone has their reasons for what they drive. My 2016 Maxima has a V6, I like that too. |

I bought my SS lightly used with 90 miles on it... GM had licensed it but scarcely driven it. So as a used (new) car I got it for the same money as the new 2LT V6 or whatever it was I had considered initially. The V8 wasn't on my radar at the start but my oldest sister who had several Camaro's including an 80's IROC insisted I test out a V8 before buying.
So I did as she suggested and the grin on my face when I punched it couldn't be wiped away. It was the right decision for me in hindsight. Yes it burns more fuel but I don't drive it near enough to matter in the big scheme of things. I admire all Camaro's I see and there aren't many where I live. Mustangs are like Rectums here everybody has one. |

Don't really matter what Camaro you drive over here; they're so rare that if you got one you're a rockstar/filmstar/god/etc...

This is getting way to deep with alot of points that I feel I should be reading while laying on a couch in someone's office. I'm going out to my garage and rev the crap out of my SS to make everything good in the world again.

![]() I also think a lot depends on where you came from. For example, I was never a "gear head" in my younger years. I always bought new, or almost new cars and never felt the need or desire to tinker with them. I was shopping for an Accord when I happened on this Camaro . ![]() I wanted to get out of my high mileage BMW that is ANYTHING but fun to work on. I thought I would enjoy tinkering on the Bimmer, fixing little things etc. but I swear German cars are designed by the Devil herself. So then I see this Camaro.... Just happened to have a V6 in it. I am generally a conservative person, so I thought that would be fine. I bought the first Camaro I found, but I researched hundreds of others before I made the deal. I didn't even consider a V8. Just way more than I need to haul my fat ass to work and back. So yes, economy did fit into the equation. But then I found this site. Holy sheite! People still tinker on and upgrade cars?! How cool is that? ![]() Now I am having a LOT of fun tweaking my ride. Nothing major, but bolt-on's do seem to make quite a difference in the enjoyment factor of a Camaro. Working on the car has so far seemed straightforward, and not too taxing largely because of all the help here on camaro5. Now some of you guys are so far above the average Joe, it's absolutely amazing! You have cams, tunes, turbos, and a car full of custom this and that. I can see why you might resent what I would describe as us bolt-on piddlers invading your space, but that is just a perspective. Perspectives can be changed. If I know something someone else doesn't I like to share. I think most do, which is what makes camaro5 such a huge success IMHO. A lot of like minded individuals with a common thread sharing the trials and tribulations of what for many is a mundane topic. Bottom line, once again JMHO, is that as soon as you strap on that first CAI or exhaust or even just a new stripe on the hood, you become something of an enthusiast. And not only is the forum a fun place to share, it also drives sales. I would have NEVER considered an $1,100 suspension upgrade without someone here pointing out the benefits. ![]() But from what I have seen, it's a small fraction of people who are just intolerant to another's choices, or lack of commitment level. I would love it if I had the resources to put together an SS with a custom build and tune. And someday I might. But I think if you took a poll, you'd find just as many DD's here as Garage Queens. And if you don't like me because I have a V6, well...that's your problem and your loss.
