If you want to blame someone, blame the media. They are so quick so slam GM and drag them through the mud, this is why they are going overboard with these foolish recalls. I swear, when an import company has a recall it is a blip on the rader, when it is an american company, they make it the largest headline possible.

So because of that, Mary Barra had intense overboard tests done on every vehicle, and some jamook with long legs, sat in a weird position and knee'd the kee. So they figure some asshole will eventually do it in real life, then there will be lawsuits and more bad media. We are on the way to a place where everything in the USA has to be idiot proofed.

As far as the other GM vehicle recalls, the enginers designed the ignition to work properly with the key for the car. They did not design it to work fo ridiots who hang huge key chains and drive over bumpy, unpaved roads. Because of that idiot factor, GM is blamed for not designing the ignition switch to work under those rare and stupid conditions.

I seem to remember this happening to us in the 80's growing up in the old c/k pickups. I think our solution was to deal with it.

You do realize we have different sections on the site for different topics, right?.......

C'mon... Either create threads on the proper sections or they might start to disappear...

Counter argument: The GM "engineers" also designed the cobalt ignition switch that was known to be faulty but passed their electrical testing and thus mechanical failure was ignored. Engineers aren't infallible.

However, seeing as how there is absolutely no defect with the vehicle and this is simply a countermeasure to stop people from doing exactly what the ignition system is made to do (turn on/off) - no 'recall' for me.

Short answer - the dealer has to reconstruct your current FOB and order the appropriate key for your vehicle. They won't send you a key in the mail.
