I just feel so isolated out here on the West Coast as opposed to NJ, and if I was back there Ted would've done this build from start to finish. I meant no disrespect to Ted, and have the highest respect for him out of any builder here, that's why I went right to him with my questions. I feel like such a dope when all you guys tell me how easy it is to move the pullley and I can't get it to budge. Not like I'm a 98lb weakling either! I just can't understand how I drove it Saturday with the pulley a little further away, then sunday came and I start to experience issues with surging. You mention the surging issue could be an airflow issue, any idea of where I can start to look for this airflow issue?
Thanks for your time SS!
I hardly know what I'm doing. I just frequent holiday inns so I think I do!!!

Check the air intake, maybe a vacuum line got knocked off. If you never had it before more than likely it's something stupid that you didn't even notice. It happens to the best of us. If you had the tb off maybe the gasket got pinched. I'd retrace your steps. You'll find it.

Let's get back to helping the OP with his issue.
The idler pulley is going to settle in under the blower pulley at a certain position regardless how hard you pry. The belt wrap will be the same either way. So why not make it easy on yourself. You can get the pulleys right next to each other without prying on only one side. The tension comes in because prying on only one side doesn't gain you much. As long as you don't release the tensioner all the way to the idler when setting it you will be fine. I've had zero problems with mine. And it takes 30 seconds and very little prying to set it up.

Oh, and I am the OP and this is exactly what the thread was about.

Strange thing, after I couldn't get the idler back closer to tensioner I rann the car to check it, rode fine. Yesterday I had a cruise and was noticing that during cruise it would surge for a second or two. Can this be related? I didn't touch anything but the pulley on Saturday and I drove for well over an hour on Saturday and it was fine....Now what?

Let's agree to disagree.

Yup. Ted was absolutely right. Tensioner was too weak it seems. I was using a 3.2 " pulley and making 7.4 pounds and switched to a 3.4 and made 7.5 pounds. (with Teds Tensioner of course)

I haven't put the 2.8 back on. Might try the 3.2 again to see what it does. I'm guessing 8.5 to 9 where I want it.

Still seems low, I made 9 psi with the 3.4 and 1:1 rears with a cam/longtubes.

Well, I can only log it on the street so it's not easy to get the boost up. If the logs are accurate then I suppose I'm a bit low. I have no cats but that's probably an immeasurable factor still.

I have the fastlane intake so I doubt that's the problem. Maybe a new filter?

I'm also catless. You should have gained a PSI or 2 with the intake. Can't see the filter causing that much of a boost drop. You logging boost from a ZR1 map sensor and a gauge? Boost/exhaust leaks, vac/boost ref lines, fittings<--- I say smoke test it.

All of your issues with belt slipping have me questioning my thoughts on my setup. Picking my Maggie up tomorrow and I was going to go 3.6 and OD cogs or 3.2 and 1:1. I have a cam and LT's and I'm wanting to run about 8-9 pounds of boost.

I have smoke tested it. NO leaks. (had to show the guys at the shop how to freaking do it)

And yes, it's a LS9 map sensor.

You get the cog drive and you won't have to worry about it.
