stick- since i really don't live in a traffic infested area and I haven't had an automatic in 15 yrs. I get bored NOT shifting gears. It's so damn fun!

i just got my 2nd manual 5th gen camaro yesterday. i could have got an awesome deal on a new 2LS, but the auto transmission was the dealbreaker. i ended up finding another sweet deal on a M6 1LT and it's in the driveway right now.

i learned to drive in a 2001 ford f-150. it was an automatic and i didn't learn to drive stick-shift until about a month before the prom at my high school. my dad drove a mustang GT with a M5 transmission and i learned to drive it so i could have a sweet ride for prom night.

once i got the hang of a manual transmission, i knew any car that is MY car, not a family car, will have a manual transmission. driving around an automatic for the past 3 weeks while waiting to get my new car has reminded me how "autopilot" it feels. i like to choose what gear i'm in and having NO doubt when it will shift or what gear its going to shift to.

in a nutshell, i drive stick-shift because i feel you are missing out on a major part of the driving experience with an automatic. gas, brake, gas, brake, gas, brake....boring IMO

Rowing gears? give me a break. I have a paddle for each hand.

You know what happens when you row with one hand...you go in circles..lmao
maybe thats why they cant win in a straight line race.

But please keep making up those cute little cliches it will help you get over that
bad transmission decision.
Again...just to be clear...those paddles are just toys. You are not really shifting. They are a sloppy excuse for a manual feel. It's not the same. Not even close. Not even a little bit.

A lot. Most the guys I know that have A6s have raced cars (autos and manuals) for many years.

I have an A6 because I prefer it for drag racing.

I've personally owned at at least 8 manuals (5 muscle cars). But as mentioned, I much prefer an automatic for a drag car.

BAD TRANNY DECISION? name one professional race car driver that uses an automatic. Im not saying an auto is a "bad decision", they both have there ups and downs. Its a personal preference, just like the color of your car. "you have a white car? why? you know the black one performs better!" I won't bash people who drive one over the other. If you drive auto good for you, you drive stick good for you. I prefer a stick over auto, because I "feel" I have more control over shift points, and don't trust my life in the hands of a computer. Is that a bad decision? IDK?

I'm not sure if you have had an opportunity to drive a 2012 or 2013 A6 with the new shifting algorithm, but after having my car on a road course yesterday I would strongly disagree with you.

Is it as fast as a dual clutch? NO

Is it going to be more fun than heal-toe shifting an M6? NO

But the A6 will downshift and and upshift much faster than I can with an M6 and it will absolutely hold a gear until you tell it otherwise (and thus it is actually possible to miss a shift). Beyond that I feel safer and more confident on the track knowing that I can shift without taking my hands of the wheel.

If I was only driving my Camaro around on country roads then the M6 would be way better. But for a road course I am more than satisfied with what I've got. It may not be your cup of tee, but it deserves a lot more credit than "a sloppy excuse".

Manual for two reasons. Last 2010 on the lot and I never learned to drive an automatic.

I'm to hard on clutches.
I like autos.
GF likes autos.
Have used autos in race cars.
Bumper to bumper traffic sucks.

I agree with quicker shifting than the manual, I own a manual. I must say there is a ton of slop in the manual. In my own opinion the clutch has way too much distance between the engage and disengage. the distance in between gears is dramatic, but I have had some cars, with a manual I could shift way quicker than the paddles. But with the paddles, for motocross is just a real P.I.A.!
