I'm working on the console now to add cup holder lighting and storage compartment lighting before I reinstall it. For the cup holders I used the GM LED's part # 92238395. I had to take these apart to the bare LED and insulate the wires before I installed them as shown in the pictures.
A little light soldering and some heat shrink tubing did the trick.

For the storage compartment I wanted white light, so I bought some white LED's from Radio Shack part # 276-0017. They are 7000mcd (microcandela), so they'll be pretty bright. The higher the mcd, the brighter they'll be. Also they come two to a pack, which is exactly how many I needed. Now, you can't just hook these up to car voltage it's too high. The LED's are rated at 3.3 to 3.6 volts. So I need to add a current limiting resistor, but what value? Well, if we use an electronic formula called Ohm's Law and some simple algebra we can figure it out.
Ohm's Law: V= I*R where V= volts, I= current in Amps and R= resistance in Ohms.
In our case V= 13.8V, I= 25mA (listed on the back of the package) and we need to solve for R to know what resistor to use.

So, 13.8 = .025 * R
13.8 / .025 = R
552 =R
We need a 552 ohm resistor for our led. The closest match is 560 ohms. I used a 1/2 watt resistor (that's what I had on hand), but a 1/4 watt would be fine. I installed a small micro switch (from my pinball parts bin) to turn the LED's on and off.

Cool stuff Frank. It's those touches that make it unique, look good and are pretty darn helpful to have. Gotta see where you are putting things !

Thanks! I'm catching up to you on mods, but I gotta long way to go!

Y'know, I am more interested in the suspension and performance mods, but it seems like the little things (LED's, ABL and heads up display) get the most attention. Go figure.

Glad I could help! They're just simple rubber rings but they sure made the ABL mod easier for me.

Hey, it looks like a car again! Got a few things to hash out still but hope to drive it this afternoon or tomorrow (I need to get it inspected to renew the tag). I think the most amazing thing about this interior build is that I didn't have any screws missing or leftover! I think that was about 40% skill and 60% luck!

Got the car inspected and the tag renewed this past week. Now, it's time to do a few shakedown drives and polish up the tune a bit. I'll try and post up a short in-car video of some of the new features in a day or two...

Outside shot today while on the test drive. It still needs to go the body shop for paint, though.

Car went to the body shop today for carbon fiber fender install and paint work. As soon as it gets back I'll have some pics up of the new paint job!
