2SSRS, Why didn't Vararam submit for testing? I know they have many intakes out there and are in the process of mass production. There are also 2 versions available if I am not mistaken. 1 for a car without a tune and 1 with a tune.

I was waiting for Vararam's intake to be available to order from them but was disappointed when I did not see them in this comparison.
Thank you, and to all that have posted.

Because most people who by these systems can't do anything about it anyway.

We have done enough of these cars that by watching fuel trims we can predict AFR at WOT.

There is Plenty of fuel in the commanded WOT Fuel table that there would be no problems with running too lean, I have tuned several of these cars and they are not very picky about AFR, they make the same power from 10:1 to 12.5:1 but respond differently with Knock control.

The customer did not want us to drill his cat head pipe for an O2 bung for warrantee reasons, and Tail Pipe AFR is a Waste of time and Sensors.

Hope this answers your questions.

You mean the tailpipe is less accurate than the collector?

From the pictures on the other thread it looks like there would be even less room for the MAF on the vararam. And that 2SSRS guy is turning into a reverse salesman for me.
Just talked to Mike at New Era and he is Hard at work on a Solution, Bravo!

If 10 guys had the kit and did not know each other only 5 of them will feel it.

Everyone has a different level of sensitivity Mine is Severely over Heightened due to my profession.

To explain what it feels like, Light Throttle cruise feels like a bad plug wire on a rainy day, intermittent split second miss.

I expect that Varraram will be dealing with the same issue.

It is caused by Pressure wave back wash being picked up by the meter when the valves open and close.

Ted.

No. You have it backwards.

Positive trim levels means the car is running lean and the computer is having to add more fuel. Negative trim levels mean the car is running rich and the computer is subtracting fuel.

No it is not running leaner or richer it is an indication of the Maf calibration affected by the CAI systems.

And the Correction that has to be made to get back to 14.7:1 which is where the car will run everyhere but WOT.

Ted can you post a dyno sheet with all the CAIs overlayed to see how they did throughout the run.

We(by we I mean Reynaldo, Art & Justin as I just watched, lol) did a similar test on the Silverado and posted it on the Silverado SS site. Here were the results:

Thanks

Possibly a dumb question but if the computer will always try to put the car back at 14.7:1 at partial throttle what is the reason for a tune, is it because the CAI sensor may be reading the wrong info therefore wacking out the calculation the car thinks it is making to get things back to 14.7:1?

The car "wants" to run 14:1 at cruise. If all you did was cruise, the stock airbox would be perfectly fine. It's when you go WOT or excelerate quickly, where you see the gains. Not just the peak numbers but the range inbetween. This is where the ECU goes into it's WOT mode and changes to the lower AFR's. Getting a tune that follows the characteristics of YOUR CAI is what makes it better.

No Questions are Dumb questions and all are welcome!

Because fuel trims only affect Closed Loop Operations, and do not get applied to WOT fueling.

So if the Long Term Fuel trims are Under + or - 10% Probably not much to be had in the tune or is a tune totally necessary.

Now if LTFT are + or - 25% I would strongly recommend a custom Tune.

Ted.

The reason I didn't do it is because all my torque colors are Red and all my HP colors are Blue and you would not be able to tell them apart or who is who.

I can only do Stock against Who 1 at a time.

Ted,

Where do you get the Fuel Trim information? Is it from Data Logging? Is this an OBD function that can be data logged by mere mortals such as myself with say a handheld tuner that performs data logging functions?

Fuel Trim information as well as any other computer sensor can be logged using MSD Dash Hawk.

It is a great little device the plugs in to the OBD2 port and can be configured to read any factory sensors or OBD2 data streams.

I carry them if your interested.

Ted.
