Really??? I'm willing to bet the new Porsche GT3 991 will whip the Z28's arse on any road course. Funny thing is the GT3 has all the creature comforts AC, awesome stereo, navigation. Not to mention one of the fastest shifting transmissions on the planet. Good look beating that with any camaro.

This is really a wild card to predict! GM could sell it as a limited production not actually making a profit on it. The "Halo" aspect of it will help sell other lesser cars that they will make a proffit on. Also, the expensive components like the brakes are to help a heavy car compete with lighter cars (aka Mustang) and the lighter car manufaturer can step up their game with less expensive efforts. Then there's the fact that the LS7 is an expensive hand built engine. But maybe the LS7 is where they intend to lose a little profit since it's at the end of its life cycle and money has been made on it in the Z06 for a while.
If I were to call price based on other Camaro models alone, I would think GM would be wise to price it just marginally higher than the ZL1 but still under $60k. Having said that I think they would lose money on each one sold for that price range. At any price, It's cool to have a Z/28 return that is track focused and not just badges! |

The existing 2013 Corvette Z06 is 75K (starts at) brand new . Doubt they will sell a Camaro for the same price. I'm thinking the Z/28 will be in the high 50's, possibly low 60's.

Here is the quote from the article you linked "GM says the Carbon’s lighter-but-more-robust equipment, such as the larger brakes and rolling stock, means the Z06’s curb weight stays the same at a still-feathery 3150 pounds, or about 200 fewer than the ZR1’s. The added grip and stability, however, translate into the Carbon being a claimed three seconds faster than the standard Z06 around both the company’s Milford, Michigan, proving grounds and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California. The 638-hp ZR1, however, likely will still qualify on pole, GM concedes. "

Still if a base Z06 IS $74,000 and the 3 seconds faster Carbon Edition is $107, 000. That gives a pretty good idea what a premium the Z28 might demand over the Camaro SS or even the ZL1.

No one ever said this was the greates road race car ever. But it will kick the snot out of it's competition from Ford and Fiat. Also, not sure why everyone is saying the Z28 is faster than the ZL1. It might be on the track, but I'm guessing the 80 hp will make the ZL1 slightly faster in the 1/4 mile. But we'll have to wait and see on that.

$64,950
Anyone saying it will be under $50K is crazy. The LS7 is not a cheap engine. The carbon ceramic brakes will add some $$$ too. GM needs to price this car high anyways to make a decent profit from it. I don't see the Z28 selling particularly well.......because it is a track based car, not a comfortable driver. Most people want a car they can live with daily. I love the idea of this car, but it will attract certain people.
