what percentage of teens (16-19) have wrecks that are not their fault?
not a guess, but actually the number of teens that have had wrecks before turning 20, divided by the total numbers of people 12-19 who have license.
Don't really understand your logic here on the word MOST. Sure there are a handful of folks out there who would like to say MOST to support their opinion, but I believe that using the word MOST is just using a little common sense and the law of averages. But for the MOST part, that is my opinion, bro!

just because you havent gotten in trouble doesnt make you a good driver.

and to give you some back story to that statement. my sister used to say that crap all the time when I was growing up. by age 18, I had 6 tickets (2 were 30mph+) and 3 (reported) wrecks (one totaled). however, all but one of those occured in my own car. and on top of that, only one of the wrecks was my fault. I got one speeding ticket in my mothers car at age 17. one of the wrecks I passed out at the wheel on the interstate after driving thru my state for 17 hours straight, went into the median and ramped over the oncoming lane of traffic, barrel-rolled and landed backwards in a bean field 15ft below the highway. I grew up driving/racing cars, from working on the farm and racing at the local tracks in the mud and on the hard tracks, I learned quickly that I wasnt invincible (well, actually it took a while cus in all these instances, I never so much as had a bruise or scrape). but, my sister would always say how much of a better driver she was cus she had never gotten any tickets. I laughed in her face and told her she has just been lucky that she hasn't gotten caught or been at the wrong place at the wrong time. that following week, she blew a tire on the interstate going 70mph and careened off the road and totaled her car. I'm not saying that I could have kept the car on the road, but experience pays. I grew up driving some of the junkiest POS cars (cus they were cheap and I didnt grow up with a lot of money). I pushed myself and my cars and still do to this day. but, I dont push it to the max if anyone else is in the car or on the road. I'm not saying I'm the greatest driver out there, but I know I'm far from the worst. Ever watch the beginning of the Dukes of Hazzard movie? thats how I learned to drive. out in the country on gravel/dirt roads. my biggest wreck of my life so far.... my dad's 1970 Barracuda with a 440 six-pack, stroked and poked, with a 250 shot of nitrous on it, mini-tubbed, full caged beast ran 8's in the 1/4. till a rod shot out the side of the block and ripped the front right wheel off the car, which then flipped upside down and I crossed the finish line at 142mph upside down with flames and sparks going everywhere. I am in my mid twenties and I know I'm not the greatest driver out there. I know how much of a F-up I was on the roads when I was young. I lost quite a few friends doing stupid shit like street racing and pushing things too far. I learn my cars inside and out. I know what they can and can not do. I know my personal limits. I was driving cars with more than 426hp before I got my license and I learned real quick not to abuse that kind of power. I grew up with a respect for driving. to me, it's not just getting from point A to point B. its an experience in and of itself. I rarely if at all talk on my cell (if I do, its on speaker) while driving, I dont eat (occasionally will drink (not alcohol)) while driving. I do my best to put my full attention to driving when I'm behind the wheel. nothing else at that time is more important than keeping track of the cars around me, the speed I'm at, the distance between me and the car in front of me, the guy on the corner blabbing on his cell phone about to step out into traffic, the car on the other side of the road not maintaining their lane of travel during a turn, and countless other things. but thats just me.

this isnt a personal jab at younger people. you can think you are a good driver because you havent been in an accident or got a ticket.... yet. but have you blown a tire on the highway at 70mph? have you ever passed a semi truck during a pouring down rain and it blows a tire and swerves into your lane at 60+mph? have you ever been going "just a little over the speed limit"? have you ever had a car run a red light and end up millimeters away from an accident, but your response time from your driving experience saved you and your car?

just because they are 18 doesnt mean they automatically get brains. I know plenty of people that are past 18 that are still dipsticks behind the wheel.

I'm more for changing our drivers license requirements to that like Germany where you dont just go for a 15 min cruise and BAM, you've got your license. it should be a test of your driving skill. and add to that different license levels for being a more skilled driver.

Look at the crumple zones. That Engineering did it exactly right, IT DIDN'T EVEN BREAK ANY GLASS except the rear of course. There is definitely "room to live" in this car. Makes me feel a WHOLE lot more confident about my kids in the back seat.

THANKS GM

Afterwards I caught up to her to see her on the cell phone and giving me the finger at the same time. And all I did was pull up in the next lane and honk. Then she speeds up to get in front of me to go 20 MPH slower. I had done nothing to this lady at all just minding my own business. Times like that I wish I was a cop and not a firefighter but what can you do.

BTW to all the user here under 18 realize we all were that age at one time or another. Heck some of us haven't completely grown up yet but for the most part were speaking out of our personal experience or that of our friends. Some of those are gone, gone as in DEAD. They all acted and spoke out much as you did that they were responsible. But I don't think the whole I can't die mentality thing wears off till you pass 25. That's why the military especially the air force God Bless them like them young.

I'm to the point that their should be two areas of this board one for adults and one for children under 18. The childish comments and the fact they offer very little insight to anything related to this car is really wearing on me.
I'm 100% with you! I live in the Tampa Bay area and people here drive the same way. What aggravates me is that I always manage to see this stuff when I'm in my personal car, not in my cruiser, otherwise it'd be all the way!!

Please don't say a deserted road or a highway. I'm not against going over the limit but 175 on a public road? He better clarify that and say it was on a track and even then he should be scorned for driving a day old Camaro whithout breaking in properly. Oh never mind he has another one coming. Sucks for what happened to the car , happy everyone is ok but come on. You know I always say cops can smell BS a mile away, firefighter/paramedics aren't too far from that ability. I'de bet a few would have something to say about this whole story. Anyhow I wish him better luck with the next one.
I'm kinda with you, and I'm a cop...

Not putting words in the totaled Camaro owner's mouth, but I'd be curious to hear the FULL story here. And yeah, the 175 mph joyride he mentions raises a rather LARGE red flag to me.

And the fact that if they 'had' a license would have made a night and day difference? IMO, if these kids were 20 or so as the articles stated..that 'license' probably had already been suspended. So this wasn't their first f**kup.

Hence I stand by my graduated license rant.

These are the times when i wish that america was more like europe where they have limits on the amount of HP cars can have per age group. Most of them are limited to like 150 hp up to their 20s and it seems to work decently. Ofcourse it wont stop bad drivers, but its the little things that make them more aware. Im turning 16 btw, but its 17 to drive here in NY, so ill be getting my license in about a year. I dont plan on getting my own car (note:plan) and i honestly can do without one for now. im scared for my friends who already have cars and they are 15 years old, and think they can already drive. Idiots.
