This happened awhile ago but I thought everyone would get a kick out of it. I was experiencing some brake fade before going into this turn, when I got to my mark and hit the brake pedal, it sunk. Between me and my instructor we believe that it was a combination of my pads not being bedded completely (new pads & rotors, I tried to bed them before I got to the track) and the rumble strips that I got ALL of on turn 7 exit causing the pads to move away from the rotor slightly. I was a beginner then and still am, but now at least I know better and if I'm having brake fade like that I should just bring it in, cool it down and probably bleed the brakes. It wasn't worth whatever it is I thought I was going to accomplish.
So after this incident I bled the brakes, secured the front air dam with a zip tie, removed (most) of the gravel that was EVERYWHERE (to this day almost a year later I will still find pebbles here and there) and completed the remaining 2 1/2 days of the 3 day HPDE event without further incident and no brake fade what so ever.
*Just wanted to point out that I was actually on 2 wheels for a moment during this ride, if you slow mo or pause it while I'm sliding side ways you can see. lol

I'm glad to see there was a runout area and that you did not get hurt!

I also had the brake fade with my '14 1LE when I switched from ST43s to Cobalt friction XR1/XR2 to try it out.

You should always calm your nerve and keep pumping (if you haven't done so already). Any sign of different behavior from the pedal is also important. There won't be many warning signs after all.

After that incident, I switched back to Raybestos ST43s (at the time), and the issue was resolved, but I didn't like being too close to fade regardless, so ended up upgrading to a BBK for the fronts.

Best session from the recent NASA event at Hastings. You'll see a modified Boss 302, challenger R/T (I think) and vette. The Boss 302 and I were the fastest out there and about equally matched...he had more HP, was hundreds of pounds lighter, and had Continental slicks (take offs), but I think I would've been a lot faster if I had more front camber (this track is a lot of fun, but brutal on tires).

Thanks! I know HPDE is for learning, and is not a race, but it's always more fun when you have some friendly competition.

Here's a (really poor quality) video from the POV of the Boss 302 after I passed him. You can barely tell it's me in front of him, but it is.

I was driving my Miata at the track this time, and caught up with a Z/28.

I caught up with him around 1:10, and started following, but I never got a pass-by. In the end, they there were now two cars (traffic), and they were slower than I expected in a corner, forcing me to brake in the corner, doing a little spin I quickly got back on the road, estimating catching back up in 7 laps (To cover 13 seconds of spin penalty at 1.8 seconds/lap), but the other guys left the next lap :( Oh well, it was so much fun!

I got a chance to drive the 2016 CTS-V for the first time, and it was on a race track Autobahn in Joliet IL. For a midsize 4 door car it scoots! I'm loving the camera and data acquisition stuff borrowed from the Vette. I drove the ATS-V too, but the Camera was not working in that car. It wasn't as fun at the CTS-V

I really liked this track, it also has a separate on site go kart track with some awesome karts for rent too. FYI
