No I didn't transfer them from my last phone. Treadstone makes an inlet that has a built in spot for the MAF sensor. It was like $60 I believe. Then I went to a shop and they bent me a 3" piece of aluminum at about a 90 degree angle. Then I just used couplers to attach them and put a filter at the end. It wasn't the prettiest thing but it worked and cost 1/3 of the price of similar sized intakes on the market.

Seriously? No one has a custom fabricated intake here? Everyone just buys them pre-fabbed?

Wow, CAI inc. makes a great product! Well worth every penny.

This thread convinced me to switch from K&N to CAI. Glad I was able to hold the two intakes side by side for comparison.

I originally did this swap and I felt both in power & sound that I lost both with the CAI Inc. Kit in comparison to the K& N . I was truly less than impressed.

Not sure why that would be. They both eliminate the stock baffling and resonators so the sound should be similar. And the CAI Inc system makes more power that the K&N so .

Referring to CAI inc.'s version, they include a 6" rubber hose and shrink wrap to attach it to the vent tube... What is the function/purpose of this? My stock tubing seems to reach fine, so I've been using that. I have a heat gun so I can easily install the extra tube I just didn't see a reason to.

Correct. Every Dyno test I have seen would point to our CAI making more power. Often what is "felt" is not exactly accurate, especially when its comparing 2 products that may be within 1-5 hp of each other, I mean you literally talking about a difference that is equal to about 1% percent of overall power output, which is why we use calibrated and controlled test conditions to back up power gains. Other items such as the fuel trims needing to adjust, sound difference from product to product, environmental conditions, etc, etc, could all be a factor as well that lead to what the user feels or does not feel. When your talking about "feeling" a 1% overall shift in power, its probably going to be based on influential factors and "mind over matter" as opposed to actual power output. This is exactly why we dyno test our products.

That being said, more often than not our customers say they "feel" a difference from adding our product, and many of them report the same thing when switching from a competitors product to ours. Going from stock to a CAI you can usually tell a big difference, going from 1 CAI to another, the difference is often found in the data logging and dyno #'s as opposed to what can be felt from the drivers seat.

The stock tubing has a plastic breather piece that we supply a 6" rubber hose to connect to, it may be possible that your breather tubing was already changed out. Otherwise you would have had a plastic piece that would require a piece of rubber hosing to connect it to the port on the CAI tube, which is why we supply that piece and the heat shrink to attach it to.

Here is a good article from GM High Tech Performance where they installed a CAI Inc intake system along with a few other goodies.
