2011 now with 1100 miles.
I noticed the same hollow clunking sound at low speed over bumps on the way home from dealer after purchase. Its very disappointing for a $36K car to sound like my daughters $20k Hyundai.

I just did a suspension upgrade on my 2010 ss/rs and found the same sound and corrected it. First, open the hood and on both sides remove the plastic nut at the top of the strut and with a tork socket and a 24mm wrench undo the top nut and then you will find a nut below that needs to be checked to ensure it is tight. I found them loose after a few days from the initial tork outside the car. Ensure the car is under full weight.

After that and putting all back together. Next check the springs that they are properly seated in the strut housing. Ensure the rubber seats are between the springs and the housing at the top and bottom of the spring.

If all is in order, finally, check to ensure that the front sway bar is properly positioned and all bolts are tight.

These actions resolved all noise even over bad potholes.

From watching the Discovery channel Ultimate factories video, I doubt the suspension is under 100% load when the upper strut mounts are tightened. I wonder if this is the solution? I rented a Camaro LS last fall and it was dead silent, so all of them don't make the noise.

Right here is the correct thing to check. After hearing it for awhile I had to retorque all 4 bolts to get rid of the sound.

Just get the correct torque specs and a calibrated torque wrench.

Dont end up like me and having the top of the strut nut rip right off after hitting a bump.

If you have the correct specs, please post them.

The service manual shows the top strut nut is torqued to 52 lb ft. You can't just turn the nut, the top of the strut mount has to be held while the nut is tightened. The manual shows a special tool - J 35669 used for holding the strut top while tightening the nut.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully, someone who's experiencing the problem will have the strut nut retorqued and report positive news. You'd think the dealers would check this before writing the noise off as normal.

FYI - I got fed up with the sound and the same old explanation from the dealer and the customer support center (in Argentina) that there is nothing they can do about the sound so I started placing calls to the Rennaisance Center in Detroit. To my surprise I spoke with someone who was appalled that no one was able to help me with this issue and how upset she and the GM team were that I was having issues. They forwarded my call over to a lady (from the GM Expert Team) who promised that she will get to the bottom of the issue. She also explained to me that she has never heard of this issue before. I actually pointed her to this forum and thread so she can see how many Camaro Owners are having this issue and how frustrated they are. I was told I will hear back from her this Thursday with an update. I will keep you all informed. She gave me her direct number and email address which is promising. I don't want to get my hopes up too much but after months of dealing with this, I feel like we are finally getting somewhere.

Did they give you a case number or reference number documenting the problem?
