Here's two seperate things I found on the L99. I call until Scott answers.

Quote:
1996 Chevrolet Caprice and Impala SS Resource Guide
1996 Caprice/Impala SS - Engines (L99)
4.3 Liter SFI V8 Engine (L99)

A 4.3 Liter small block V8 is the standard engine for the 1996 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Sedan. The L99 incorporates the Corvette LT1's advanced technology in a smaller 4.3 Liter displacement engine. It produces 200 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 240 lb.-ft. torque at 2400 rpm. OBD II ( On-Board Diagnostics Second Generation) is standard.

* The 4.3L V8 features a cast-iron block, for durability and reliability
* The cast-iron cylinder heads were designed for a Sequential Fuel Injection intake manifold and reverse flow cooling system, providing maximum power without sacrificing efficiency
* An air cleaner silencing system and induction tuning provide extremely quiet operation
* A new electric air injection reactor (AIR) pump reduces hydrocarbon emissions on cold starts without the parasitic power loss and noise associated with a mechanical air pump
* The L99 shares many technical features with the 5.7 Liter LT1 engine described below.

The L99 V8 improvements for 1996 include:

* Exhaust manifolds have tri-layered stainless-steel exhaust gaskets which improve durability and reduce exhaust leaks
* Recyclable copper-lead cam bearings replace the cadmium lead bearings used previously
* Low-resistance ignition wires and platinum-tip spark plugs are designed to improve idle quality and cold-start performance.

L99

A 4.3 L version of the LT1, designated the L99, was introduced in 1994 for the Chevrolet Caprice. The bore was reduced to 102 mm and the stroke to 76 mm. Like the LT1, it features sequential fuel injection, reverse cooling, and an optical crank position sensor. Output is 200 hp and 245 ft-lbs.

The L99 (9.4:1 compression ratio) was available on the following vehicles:

1994-1996 Chevrolet Caprice (sedan only)
1994-1996 Chevrolet Caprice Police Package (sedan only)

Road and Track is saying that the models are RS and SS with the SS getting the choice of the L99 and LS3 for power.

Those who choose the Tremec 6060 manual will get the LS3 from the Corvette, while buyers opting for the 6-speed automatic will get the L99 V-8 with active fuel management, which cycles back and forth between four and eight cylinders to boost fuel economy. The LS3 is expected to make about 420 bhp and 408 lb.-ft. of torque, while the L99 is estimated at 395 bhp and 395 lb.-ft. of torque. The V-6 will run on regular unleaded gasoline, while both V-8s are specified to take premium.

Maybe the 'new' L99 is the version of the LS3 with cylinder de-activation?

...I'd be a little...shocked if the camaro got a 4.3l v8

Edit: Ah, beaten to the punch.

Everything looks really good... LED? brake lights, HALO's, overall flow... really good for the V6.

Interior still needs some work IMO, Radio is the worst part, but overall I'd give the car a 8.5 / 10.

Cant wait tell the LS3's / V8/ Z28's arrive.... I'm going to wait tell the release on the 21st! -

These pics are artist renditions probably from the brochures that will be on the dealers racks. They're nice and lots of wow factor to them, but everyone should realize the real scoop will be on monday and tuesday with no promise of pictures even then. I think peoples hopes are so high they're seeing what they want to see. Chill and wait it out. It was a thrill tho!!

Awwwee man. I love artist renderings as much as the next guy but not now! I really really was wanting the HUD option.

Oh well, there's still a chance and I'm still hyped regardless.

No I will not chill, I love the new Camaro.

p.s.- I'm not believing the written specs or models being offered till I hear it on Monday, I'm just going crazy over the photos.
