Here is what the AR use to look like. Maybe this will help you make up your mind.

I like photos of chewed up targets!

Every shot either killed or dam sure got his attention

Ya I am not quit done with it yet. But the quad rail gives you tons of options for attachments. Just pull the trigger(yes pun intended)

I used YHM black gas tube, quad rail, low pro gas block(forget the brand but it was really nice) and Wilson flip up sights. Parts were bout $350. I did it myself so no charge for the work.

I am sure most owners go shooting at least once every other month so that means minimum they will shoot at least 1000 rounds every two years. A 1000 rounds is nothing. Reloading is a smart way to go.
A 1000 rounds is nothing. If I bring a few guns to the range and 200 rounds for each gun that's easily 1000 rounds in just a day at the range. Especially if you bring a friend or two.

1,000 is nothing.

My last trip to the range was right before Thanksgiving before it got too cold and here is what we took gun wise;
- 2 5.56 AR-15s
- 6.5 Grendel AR-15
- .17 HMR rifle
- 2 .45 semi-auto pistols
- 3 9mm semi-auto pistols
- 4 38 special revolvers
- .40 semi-auto pistol
- .380 Semi-auto pistol

Ammo wise we took;
- 500 rounds .223
- 200 rounds 6.5 Grendel
- 100 rounds .17 HMR
- 500 rounds .45
- 500 rounds 9mm
- 500 rounds 38 special
- 250 rounds .40
- 100 rounds .380

That's over 2,500 rounds every visit and we try to go at least once a month if it's nice out. That's if it's just us. If we bring friends it will be a lot more.

Reloading costs a ton to start out but when you can reload a box for 1/3 the cost if you keep your brass it will pay for itself quick.

Where are you guys getting your consumables? I got my last batch of bullets and brass off of gunbroker for a nice price, buy my powder and primers locally because of the outrageous hazmat fees..... I'm still at ~ 1/2 to 2/3 cost compared to off the shelf, some calibers just aren't all that cheap to reload.
