There are so many scenarios to consider now with drivetrain options. I was looking for a PHEV because of hesitations with EV but there weren't any available at a reasonable price so went full EV. I'm glad I did. I've taken 1000mi round trips with only a few short stops. On longer drives I use a second ICE vehicle or rent a car to also not put so much wear and tear on my car or when I can just fly. I'm not looking at sooner coolant changes, water pump timing belts plugs brakepads and rotors, oil and filter air filter and all the rest at 10k 60k 100k mi. Hotels being about $150 a night and gas prices being several $hundred for these longer trips unless I'm there for a long stay it's nearly same price to just fly even if I rent a car once I'm there. Road trips can be fun but only if you're traveling both ways with friends or family with some things to stop and see along the way. The dragrace video was fun to watch. I wouldn't pay the extra for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N it wasn't much faster. The interior space in the back might make me change my mind. |

So I come into the office today and this is what I see in the parking garage…
I know who drives 2 of the Mach Es, 1 of the Rivians, 1 of the Model Ys, 1 of the Bolt EUVs, and the Lyriq. The others are a mystery to me. I was really surprised to see two Lucid Grand Tourings. They start at $111k. We share the garage with a couple other companies, but we have a dedicated floor and one of the Lucids has been parking on our floor for a couple weeks, so I’ll have to find out who it belongs to. All but one of the Bolt EUVs, one of the Mach Es, the Tesla S, and the Polestar 2 are on our floor, so arguably in my company.

I figured out the Lucid mystery. Lucid is moving their Detroit office into our building. Those are company cars.

EV’s can be a commuter’s dream vehicle especially in heavy stop and go traffic and home charging with never having to stop at a gas station for fuel. I know a few country boys who are seriously considering buying an PHEV like the Chevy Volt or even a full on EV like the Chevy Blazer or slightly cheaper Chevy Equinox to augment their ice vehicles.

This is a really good, entertaining, and balanced comparison of a Camry Hybrid (all Camrys are hybrid starting 2024) and a Model 3. The reviewer is one of my favorite YouTubers. Not a fanboy, calls ‘em as he sees ‘em. He approaches it as a consumer and not overly specification focused.

This is gonna be a big deal, at least in South Korea where the incident occurred. Ironically, South Korea is right up there with China in terms of battery manufacturing, but the batteries in question come from a smaller Chinese battery manufacturer. In any event, this serves as proof that a lot more work needs to be done in the area of fire containment and extinguishing.

The thing that makes me laugh is all these car companies have all these people with all these advanced degrees making 6+ figures making important decisions with billions of dollars of the company’s financial future at stake……..
When they could just have people like dumb ass me and you who could have told them “do not invest all this money in EV - Americans just flat out do not want them” I mean….. I just don’t know sometimes ![]()

If theres not some amount of investment US involvement in auto production is going to be limited to Tesla and pickup trucks. Its interesting that other markets seem a lot more focused on economy and safety than the US is, at least for the moment. |

In response to video Camry hybrid and Tesla 3 if a person lives in an area with cheap gas a cents per mile of fuel cost vs electric can be competitive. I first went with a hybrid for savings before a BEV. The NoiseVibrationHarshness, driving experience, interior quality are still items to consider in each brand. I like acceleration so I'll post a picture of 0-60times with the generation models of cars I bought. The Benz ICE wins hands down for driving if not considering acceleration and regen braking or hard cornering. The hybrid is great to get double the city mpg than the ICE but you still have the maintenance of the engine and brakes. My particular model BEV lacks a premium feel but is far best for performance driving, even without acceleration boost it drives like an SS. https://autos.yahoo.com/car-experts-...100000653.html I'll throw this here. The headline is somewhat misleading. 77% battery after 430,000 miles driven with no failures of battery or motor under hard service isn't NO degradation but acceptable degradation. Would be better wording. But then again the whole world doesn't want BEVs ![]() |
