What sanctioned body event do you speak of, that the ZL1 could race a 350 mile event?

GM (and Ford) marketed the ZL1 and (Boss/LS) as a track car. Ford did so first however, a car that is track ready is far different that is competition ready. You will find that there are a lot of GT, Boss and Boss LS owners that are running competitively in SCCA and NASA. All thier cars (11' GT500 and the Bilstein equipped '13 GT500 included) are legal to run competitively. SCCA now allows supercharged cars to run legally however, the SCCA, NASA, FIA (Europe) and in fact every single road racing organization in the world WILL NOT permit the use of MRC as the ZL1 has.
Could the ZL1 enter Grand Am this year in GS class? No... Could the ZL1 challenge Paul Brown in SCCA GTS? No... Will NASA accept them? No again... The SS has trouble there alone.

The reason an obscure track was selected was because NO existing times for any of the Mustang's are recorded on those tracks. The last GT500 vs. Boss LS at Willow seen the GT500 win by .5 seconds, add in your 650/670hp, 600+tq, Bilstein shocks, revised gearing, New Goodyears and better cooling...
Ouch,i didnt know all that. Why is mrc not allowed?? Is it like the gtr and how people say it has electronic nannies that takes the "fun" out of it?

Chevy Challenges Ford To Muscle Car Fight, Ford Takes Bat, Goes Home
<br style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Georgia, Times, 'Liberation Serif', serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 19px; ">After Ford brought out its potentially ZL1-killing 650-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500, Joel Ewanick, global vice president of GM marketing, decided to drop the gauntlet down at the feet of Ford. "We should take a Camaro, Ford brings a Mustang, we each pick our drivers, and see who has the best time on the Nürburgring," Ewanick said to Scott Burgess of the Detroit News. Jim Farley, who heads Ford's global marketing, wasn't taking the bait despite professed claims to a desire to "take a bat" to Chevrolet. "I wish we could," he said, after hearing about Ewanick's challenge. "Who wouldn't want to do that?" Huh.

Come on Farley! Don't let GM push you around!!!
if gm was really that confident, why didnt they too just supply a readily available gt50/ for one of the magazine tests? Looks to me like in the above quote, the gm rep was just mad that the 650hp gt500 announcement took the wind out of their sails.of course a ford rep pressured to respond would keep his cool and not say anything dumb enough to push momentum back towards gm. Simple pr response.

See, that's why there's no point in interacting with fanboys with your level of rabidity. Think about what you just said. I'll help you out, here is what you said sucks: the pony car that has been the king of the street since 2003 (and still is right now, actually), that has run an 11 second 1/4 mile bone stock (something we haven't actually seen the ZL1 do yet, have we?), that lapped VIR faster than an Audi R8. That does all that getting mpg sufficient to avoid the GGT (something that the ZL1 isn't capable of). It also does it all for thousands of dollars less than the base ZL1 price. That is what you think "sucks".

Do you really think that your opinion of the car in question is accurate? Or MAYBE do you think that you're so blinded by fanboy bias that you're not even capable of rational thought?

Just think about it for a while.

It's a pr response.

Probably couldn't explain it enough for u to under stand.

2012 zl1 is the fast muscle car u can get in 2012 model form. Ford guys can't argue this. That why the ford fan boys pull out the 2013 card.

I feel the 2013 gt500 will be the best in class for that year. Unless gm has something up their sleeve for their 2013 model. Only time will tell.

talking about model years is really misleading though. Both cars will be available and built at practically the same time.

pr response or maybe indeed ford was scared but how is a ford exec expected to make a proper response representing the entire company right on the spot like that? Look at who they were even asking, head of Fords MARKETING. its not like he was the head of ford the entire company has complete control of the 2013 GT500 engineering campaign. The GT500 probably wasnt even completely done by then.
But why didnt GM just settle all this by supplying a 2012 GT500 to the mags so that it can stomp on it for all to see?....maybe they were worried the results would be too close? who knows? but i would have liked to see it. But you have to remember the zl1 was a response to a car that is already out there, no secrets. The 2013 model was fords upgrade but no car or competition to even compare it to, so maybe even the 2013 model wont even be able to hang with the ZL1. Or perhaps it was overkill?? wont know for a few months i guess.

I have owned a 2005 Mustang GT
I have owned a 2009 Challenger R/T
I own a 2010 SS Camaro

I am a GM Fanboy yes and proud of it.
I am a car enthusiast and proud of it.

When the 2011 5.0 knocked the SS of the hill I did not cry a river.
Now the ZL1 has knocked the Shelby/Boss off the hill GET OVER IT.
The Shelby is and until it proves otherwise a car that can't use its power.
Almost every auto enthusiast named the Boss 302 the Best Mustang EVER Built WHY?????
Because the Shelby has ALWAYS had trouble using its power.

From Motor Trend Website Game is over lets move forward
Thread of the Day: Camaro ZL1 Beats Mustang Boss 302 – How Will 2013 Shelby GT500 Fare?

Those are called facts and you have to live with them Sorry boys?

And I am still wait for it....... and then good nite my friends!

Take the advise Move Forward

dood, as a Camaro fan myself, I find you tiring and you should move on to Honda and Nissans, you are a poison to the muscle car hobby.

Fyi, the boss is labeled as the best mustang ever, not the fastest mustang ever.people like it because its well balanced and nothing in its price range can beast it despite only having an engine with 5 liters

I regards to this articles last comment when discussing a future 2013 GT500 matchup, I find it interesting that they mention they are going to need a bigger track. I havent seen anyone touch on this yet.

How much you want to bet they find a faster track with more straightaways to help out the higher powered GT500 and hopefully (for them) produce better results for the new Ford? The writing is on the wall from the way this article is written that while the ZL1 had its day here in convincing and impressive fashion, Motortrend plans for the latest and greatest upcoming GT500 to take the crown back. Only thing is, that last comment implies to me that their confidence is a bit shook that the GT500's power advantage will be enough to overcome the ZL1 on a shorter track with more twisties.
