I can't believe people are trying too run a car that is not broken in yet! First off you can't expect the engine too perform with synthetic oil in the motor. Next all of the bearings are not broken in either, that would include the transmission, wheel bearings, rearend and don't forget the blower has drag with new bearings.
Having worked with robots and CNC machines, anytime bearings got replaced a breakin needed too be done by rpm and temperture. Used too be 500 miles long ago and then the breakin oil was changed for regular oil,now it's 1500 miles for the engine rings to seat in. Don't believe the break it in hard, thats a bunch of uniformed people who don't know any better! Think GM is trying too make your car slow?

honestly for all we know it could have only happened on that one dyno run and the car could have been good since.
but yea i get what ur saying that dip literally had the torque cruve going from a solid 480ish rwtq from 2.5k rpm to 4.5k rpm to 450rwtq for 500rpm and than down hill from there. that dip also moved that hp band down some (maby 25rwhp throughout the powerband).

Im gonna wait for Lingenfelter to run the 1/4 mile. i bet they will crack the 11's...

To assume that would just be speculation. The time is what it is...

Everyone needs to stop making all these lame excuses and wait for some more times to be posted.
To assume the problem corrected itself would be bigger speculation. But, yes. More runs are needed to prove either.

so have they officailly published that yet? or is that still just the numbers from the mag review were they did the ride along? 285 is still quite a bit of tire. I mean some cars you can't fit much more than that.

I think the bigger question is the problem itself. It appears to a growing list of problems people are finding with their new ZL1's. Bad rear ends, coolant caps missing with no coolant inside, damaged paint, people driving around with those spacers still in the shocks, now a possible tune issue...What's next?...

Hopefully these are all isolated cases but damn, all the talk about the rigorous quality inspections you would think these things would have been found.

Oh come on, you can't look at this dyno chart for the car and say it's a good representation of what a ZL1 can do. It's like at 4500 rpm someone hit the bottle, but in reverse! Also notice the choppiness. It's not severe, but with smoothig at 5 it shouldn't be that choppy. Something is not happy.

I agree that some of these responses are excuses, but that chart right there is actual data and evidence there was a problem.

We need to wait for another car or at least get this one sorted first before passing judgement.

I don't mean to call you out but these engines have been run and started by GM. The rings are seated, its not the 60s any more..... The motor will loosen up slightly but break in is for rings to seat and this is not a problem. Any other failure later on is due to bad machining or assembly. Why would an engine not perform with synthetic in it? Or vice versa if you mean it that way? Sorry but this is all silly. The car isn't right and obviously saw some detonation or has a low octane timing table that has been enabled due to seeing detonation at some point in its short lifespan.

+1.

The truly sad thing is you have people who buy this car or a GT500 and have ABSOLUTELY no idea about cars. They have financial knowledge but no automotive knowledge.

Stop talking about break in period. There is NO SUCH THING. It is a warranty voiding tactic. If you fall for that, you probably bought the ziebart supreme paint protection too.

gt500 top speed 202 1/4 11.65 120mph+ o-60 3.7 55k ZR1 top speed 205 1/4 mile, 10.7 s @ 133 0-60 3.4 111k chevy.com Mustangdaily.com Like i said in order to beat the 2013 gt500 it would need to beat its own top of the line for half the price. Camaro won't advance until the corvette does :( I had really high hopes for the ZL1, the tech to turn this into a 800+ hp monster production car is out there and affordable, but i don't think they want to risk passing up their flagship sports car. The good news is we at least have a solid starting point for the modders.
