Thanks guys. I spoke to the machine shop this morning and they told me they replace one sleeve all the time like it was no big deal. I'm just waiting on them to call me back with a price. If the cost of machining this bloc cost anything near what a new block is or even gets close to it I will go ahead and get a new block.

So it looks like I'm going to re-sleeve the one cracked cylinder because it's way more affordable. The machine shop wants around $1600 to do all the machining including the re-sleeve and decking the block. It will cost me over $4k to buy a new block and have it prepped for assembly.

Well after re-inspecting that cylinder that I thought was cracked turns out to be a deep scratch,, so I don't have to re-sleeve because I'm certain that .010 honing will that care of it. What do you guys think about the crank journals? Do you think that I can get away without a polishing and just through some new bearings in there?

That is great news! Have you documented the journal diameters with a micrometer? I would probably opt for a polish considering the application & mic after as well. The bottom end is your foundation & details are paramount. Maybe your shop will give you a good deal on a polish or do it for free considering the money you have spent.

A polish usually just knocks off any high spots & there won't be a big measurable amount as in grinding. A good shop will document the before & after.

Hey Joe, glad to hear there are no major complications for you! Get that crank polished and a fresh set of bearings. You will be good as new!

Ok guys so I need your help on making a decision. I have got to decide on which heads to use on the build. So I have the stock heads back from the TSP porting service and they look pretty darn good and Thursday I get the TSP PRC 260 heads back as well. The difference is the TSP PRC heads have a smaller intake runner for more velocity, a bigger 2.185, and a 1.6 exhaust valve. Both set of heads will give me a compression ratio of 10.56:1 depending on my selection of head gasket. So is this a case of bigger is better on the valve size? I'm thinking of just using the TSP PRC heads since I just spent 3k on them but wanted to get your guys opinions.

Here's a few pictures of the stock ported heads.

IF it were me, assuming PRC is not going to take the heads back, I'd run them instead of taking a loss by reselling them. Sit the others on the shelf incase you ever need them. I personally think it would be marginal at best the difference and possibly benefit from the smaller runners for street use.

That's what I was thinking too. Thanks.

One thing that is kind weird is they ground off the 823 casting and put a PRC stamp there.

I thought you guys might want to see a side by side comparison of the TSP 260 heads compared to the stock ported heads. Not really a big difference except for the TSP heads have smoother ports, a thicker deck, machined in rocker pedestals, bronze guides, and bigger valves. One thing to note though is I had hollow stem intake valves put in the stock heads and the TSP heads already come with them. I don't really think the TSP heads are worth the money if you ask me. Considering it only cost about $900 to have your stock heads ported from them and I think the results will only be 5-10 hp. The ones on the left are the TSP heads.
